Edited FD8 notes from the Flight Plan Walkthhrough (L2): (Note, this is pre-addition of Port SARJ Inspection):

FD8 – EVA 3 and P6 SAW Deploy
• EVA 3 Overview: Attach P6 to P5; Connect P6/P5 umbilicals; Release outboard P6 PVR
cinch; Remove SSU shroud; Configure S1 SFU post S1 radiator deploy; Configure vent tool
bags; Transfer MBSU from PLB to ESP-2

• Assignments:
o MS1: EV1; MS3: EV2
o MS4: suit and task IV; ISS CDR: EVA Prep suit IV2; FE-2 (dn): Post EVA suit IV2
o MS2: M2 for P6; FE-2 (up): M1 for P6 & SAW view
o FE-2 (dn): M3 for P6 & M2 for SAW view
o PLT: R1 for P6 & MBSU; CDR: R2 for P6; MS2: R2 for MBSU

• EVA duration is 7:00. LiOH is used due to the increased nominal duration and in case the
EVs stay out for SAW deploy.
• EVA Prep/Campout protocol: see FD4
• EVA 3 (EVA tasks and robotics):

? Attach P6 to P5: SSRMS/P6 is in the pre-install setup position prior to egress. Both EVs
verify status of the P5 RTAS bolts and move outside the P6 contact area. SSRMS
maneuvers P6 to preinstall and the EVs guide the SSRMS with GCA calls for alignment
checks until P6 is at first contact position. The EVs engage the P5 capture latch and
SSRMS is limped. EV1 performs initial torquing on the four RTAS bolts and EV2
releases grounding straps. Then both EVs perform final torquing on the bolts. Once all
four bolts are torqued, SSRMS is free to ungrapple P6.
? Connect P6 to P5 Umbilicals: Both EVs perform P6/P5 connector swaps for
data/power umbilicals.
? SSU MLI Shroud Removal: EVs remove P6 2B and 4B SSU shrouds and stow in an
ORU bag.
? Outboard Radiator Cinch Release: EV1 releases P6 PVR cinches in order to deploy
the P6 radiator.
? P1 SFU Config for Cinch Firing: EV1 swaps P1 Squib Firing Unit connectors so that
P1 radiators can be deployed. This is a get-ahead for stage.
? S1 SFU Config Post Deploy: EV1 swaps S1 Squib Firing Unit connectors to their
original config post S1 radiator deploy.
? MBSU Transfer: SRMS is in an APFR install setup position prior to this task. EV2
installs an APFR on SRMS and ingresses the SRMS APFR. SRMS carries EV2 to the
PLB MBSU stowage location. EV2 then removes the MBSU from its docking station after
which SRMS maneuvers EV2 to the handoff position. EV2 hands the MBSU to EV1 who
installs it on ESP2.

• Robotics:
? SSRMS: At the end of FD7, SSRMS is based on MBS PDGF3 at WS8 grappled to P6 in
the handoff position. Prior to EV egress, SSRMS maneuvers P6 to the intermediate
position and then to the pre-install setup position where it resides at the start of the EVA.
EVA support is described above in Attach P6 to P5. Once all four RTAS bolts are
torqued, SSRMS ungrapples P6 and maneuvers to a SAW deploy viewing position
where it remains for the remainder of the docked mission.
? SRMS is in precradle at the start of the day, and maneuvers to a P6 install viewing
position after the SSRMS maneuver to intermediate and before the SSRMS maneuver to
pre-install setup. Later SRMS maneuvers to the APFR install setup position after
SSRMS has finished its maneuver to SAW viewing, and prior to the MBSU EVA support.
EVA support is described above in MBSU Transfer. After SRMS in no longer required
for EVA support, it maneuvers to precradle. SRMS is powered down after SAW deploy.

• P6 2B/4B SAW & P6 PVR Deploy:
o Three teams of Phalcons will support P6 SAW deploy so that both SAWs are fully
deployed within 6 hours after P6/P5 umbilicals are mated.
o Starting after P6/P5 umbilical connect, MCC-H performs most of the tasks leading up to
the actual SAW deploy including activating power channels, unlocking BGAs, unlatching
SABBs, deploying to one bay, and re-latching SABBs. CDR and FE-2 (up) are timelined
to monitor cameras during mast deploy to one bay. Five crewmembers are timelined for
the deploys to 100%, including CDR and FE-2 (up) who command the deploys while
PLT and MS2 monitor from the shuttle PCS. There is no thermal conditioning or thermal
holds required for the deploys, and no special attitudes are required. The mast deploy to
one bay and deploy to 100% require daylight and ISS or STS Ku. 2B is deployed prior to
4B and 2B must be deployed 100% before proceeding to 4B.
o MCC-H performs the P6 PVR deploy but CDR is timelined to monitor cameras. P6 PVR
deploy cannot occur until the outboard radiator cinch is released during the EVA. PVR
deploy requires daylight.

• Maneuvers: The shuttle maneuvers the stack back to ISS -XVV TEA after MLG thermal
conditioning. This is also the P6 install attitude and must be completed prior to SSRMS ops.
DAP A15 is maintained through out the day until P6 is fully installed, then DAP A12 is
selected.

• Node 2 Internal Outfitting:
o Closeout Panel Launch Bolt Removal includes removing closeout launch bolts. There
are >700 bolts to be removed for a duration of 4:40 (scheduled in smaller blocks of time).

No point adding Flight Plan screenshots given the change to the day.

FD8's Spacewalkers.

Here's to a good P6 SAW Deploy!  I will, unfortunately, not see it live.

I don't quite remember the title of the song, but it was in Spanish, and played for PLT Zamka, whose mother enjoyed that song when she lived in Bogota, Colombia.  Now the astronauts are finishing up their hygiene break and there may be a delay of 1/2 hour in start of EVA due to unspecified reasons.
I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

Have you tried any of the other http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html links, or one of the links from the http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/shuttle/countdown/video/  page?

Dan's getting better at travelling thru areas - before his feet were always well above his head and running into things.  :)

Offline Bubbinski

Here's a shot of Destiny and another shot of the astronauts in Quest.  The delay is reported as due to a delay in the start of the hygiene break.

I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

Hey guys, just wanted to say there was another in here who was staying up for the EVA. :)

Starts at 3AM here, so about 4 and a half hours.

One question though, I have a good DSL connection and I seem to recall a high def version of the NASA stream somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. It was 640x480, great quality.

Offline Bubbinski

Here's the 2.7 MB stream I use: mms://whoodavideo1.whooda.com/whooda/?a=1661417&b=3000&c=NASATV&d=1908516&e=1755004&f=736526&g=0

Here's an alternate (1.2 MB Yahoo): mms://68.142.216.146/bcenc202215?StreamID=47337502&pl_auth=80c5da0d66eaccabe495bafd163f0172&ht=30&pl_b=00448ED8EB4C1B48960BED9F29471D8155&CG_ID=1368163

I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

You're welcome, Joshcryer.  Before I go to bed here's one more screenshot - I think this is Whitson and Tani in Destiny.  The EVA astronauts are going through the prebreathe procedure.  Unfortunately I won't be able to stay up for the EVA, I have to go to work tomorrow....

In regards to the first two paragraphs (and headline), can the writer get any more dramatic?

For the person who asked about the wakeup song - here's the title: 'Malaguena Salerosae' by Chingon.  I've got a few more screenshots, they showed some spectacular camera shots of the shuttle and ISS just now.

Todd does sort of emphasize drama, but not to the extent of "disaster is imminent! they're all going to die!!" type of stories.

My impression is one of his editors added that paragraph or at least revised and generously embellished what he originally wrote.

(reporters aren't usually in total control of what they originally write -vs- what ends up appearing in print or online)

Here's a good shot of the EVA spacesuit torso, and below that a shot of one of the EVA crewmen.  Not sure if it's Parazynski or Wheels.

Well- Whatever gets people to read the space articles... :o

Getting attention and drawing eyes to a headline or story lede is what counts the most for many publishers and editors, regardless of how much the facts might be twisted or distorted to do so.

Can't tell what scifi movie Clay is watching while he's exercising - looks almost like something playing at double or triple speed.
