Flight Day 7

From the Flight Plan and Flight Plan Walkthrough (and just a snippet, which gives you an idea of complexity):

FD7 – P6 Handoff and Off-Duty
• P6 Handoff:
o At the end of FD6, SSRMS is based on MBS PDGF3 at WS4 grappled to P6 in the
handoff position. SRMS grapples P6 in the handoff position, and SSRMS releases P6
and maneuvers to a position to view MT translation. Then the MT and SSRMS are
translated to WS8 which is required for P6 installation on P5.
o After the Meal, SSRMS re-grapples P6 in the handoff position and SRMS releases P6
and maneuvers to precradle. P6 remains on the SSRMS in the handoff position
overnight.
o According to the flight rules, P6 should be on the SRMS for as short amount of time as
possible in case of an emergency undock.
? The robotics ops are choreographed such that only one arm changes position at a time.
? Two SSRMS and two SRMS operators are required.
? No water dumps or star of opportunity aligns are possible all day since P6 blocks the
dump nozzle and -Y star tracker in the handoff position.

• S1 Radiator Deploy: MCC-H commands deploy of S1 radiator 1 & 3 outer panels. PVR
deploy requires daylight.

? During all ROBO procedures, the shuttle crew is required to configure shuttle cameras to
support SSRMS video. Therefore, CDR, PLT, and/or MS2 should be timelined for
continuous SSRMS P/TV during robotics. The detailed pages reference the applicable
ROBO procedure in the P/TV activity.
? Illuminators are powered on overnight so MCC can control cameras to perform an ISS
survey.

• EVA Preps:
o The ISS crew resizes FE-2’s suit which is still in the airlock from EVA2 for ISS CDR. The
resize is scheduled before EMU Swap since it’s easier to resize a suit while it’s attached
to the airlock wall. This is in preparation for EVA5.
o BSA EVA tool battery charging is terminated and BSA EMU battery charging is initiated.
This is required prior to EMU Swap.
o EMUs are swapped so that FE-2’s (ISS CDR’s new) EMU is removed from the A/L and
MS3’s EMU is placed in the airlock.
o METOX regen is terminated.
o LiOH canisters and EMU batteries are installed in the EMUs, the E/L is prepared, and
EVA tools are configured.
o The ISS crew prepares DCS cameras (2) for the EVA.
o All crewmembers are timelined for an hour procedure review.
o MS1(EV1) and MS3(EV2) perform EVA campout procedures in presleep with MS4(IV)
assisting until hatch closure. They initiate a mask prebreathe, finish tool config, and
depress the A/L to 10.2 psi. The EV crewmembers sleep in the A/L overnight.
• PRLAs from Node 2 retention hardware are closed. This is scheduled during Ku LOS since
it requires two logic power switches be turned off which takes the Ku to standby.
• Exercise Inhibits:
o During S1 radiator 1 & 3 deploys
o While both arms are grappled to P6

• Maneuvers: The shuttle maneuvers the stack to ISS +XVV TEA for MLG thermal
conditioning. This attitude is held for ~12 hours.

• Node 2 Internal Outfitting:
o Node 2 Avionics Rack Outfitting includes releasing Node 2 Av rack launch restraints
and knee braces, installing KBARs and pivot fittings, and installing 4 DDCU connectors.

• Off-Duty is scheduled for 3.5 hours for shuttle crew and 2.5 hours for ISS crew. The crew
can not hear SRMS inadvertent release tones through the BPSMU, so someone may need
to remain in shuttle while P6 is on SRMS.

• PAO: This event is performed in the Lab via ISS comm. Real-time deletion of the +XVV TEA
attitude for MLG thermal will affect comm for this event.
? HAM Radio event is scheduled.

Good morning everyone! Welcome to FD 07.  I just got in from a night out, and missed crew wakeup, so I hope they were treated to some good music.

To business for today.

The FD 07 Execute Package is up: http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/194942main_fd07exec.pdf

And here is the NASA TV schedule for today.

S1 radiator 1 seems to be successfully deployed.

Didn't look like it was quite as smooth a deployment as some of the previous radiators. On the other hand, those *have* been sitting folded and exposed for a number of years.

Radiator 3 deployment has begun, per PAO.

Yeah, the S1 radiator #1 deploy seemed a bit slow and jerky.  I was on my PDA at the time and wasn't sure if it was buffering probs with the stream, or sequential stills of the deploy or what.  The #3 deploy I watched on my office PC and seemed a lot smoother.

PAO reports the deploys were nominal.  Now, there is some reconfig work left on EVA 3 reagarding the ETCS (undoing the configs done on EVA 2 to allow ground to deploy the radiators, I believe).

.. and I'm gonna get some sleep.  Gotta be up for work in 4 hours, just woke up in time for the deployment :)

Yes, they need to disconnect the squib cables for S1, then connect the P1 squib cables for the subsequent deployment after undocking.

Clay's morning DPC song is Green Day's "Time of Your Life".
Dedicated to folks at Huntsville and Marshall.

Was that Clay with that great comment on a bye being a win for the Army football team?

By the way... Wouldn't sports priority go to the Red Sox winning the World Series? (Sure would if Suri was still up there)

That was someone on Discovery.

They already relayed the World Series final earlier to Discovery and Stephanie (to cheers on audio in reply).

He officially is, but I suspect he won't become a practical part of the crew until undocking, because everyone's timeline is so slammed on this mission ISS still needs him more than Discovery does until Dan gets acclimated.

Seems the samples collected by Tani are ferrous - they are responding to the magnet.
