Early predictions.  T-Rad DTO to be cancelled in favor of further SARJ troubleshooting.  Also,  mission extension of 1 day to allow for full duration EVA-4 and prevent back to back EVAs.  Guess we'll see.  Regardless, looking forward to SRB videos soon.

Not a bad call there!

TRad was initially set for 126, and only got bumped up after the TPS issue with Endeavour on 118.

Here's Leroy...

I only caught the tail end of the briefing, but were they asked about extending and the impact on the 10A stage?  Up until now, extending the mission delays starting the packed stage timeline, which is based on when this flight undocks.

Pre-lim hardware performance of Shuttle (ET, SSMEs etc.etc.) all looked good.

Leroy Cain asked about the 122 schedule, noting the rollover review on Wednesday.

(He also said that rollover looks like about a week from now...shades of L2.)

ShuttleDiscovery - 28/10/2007  9:54 AM

They don't have to be tethered at all times, they can just pull themselves around using handrails. If one does float away without a tether, they have a pack called SAFER on theeir backs which can move them back.

At least one tether is required at all times, even when moving (why the main ones are so long with different lengths). An additional tether is required at any worksite.

That's correct. They are not nearly as cavalier with tethers as ShuttleDiscovery suggests. SAFER is zero-fault tolerant and for emergency use only; they do not want to ever need to use it.

I'm reminded only after seeing it that the right hand down-facing camera had this one-time different pan and zoom to it...kind of nice to see the water hitting the bottom of the flame trench going into the ignition sequence...

Actually, the separation sequence was nice, too -- you could see much of the other booster...very nice...

Impressive to see the other booster nozzle this time!  You could see the thrust-plume from the orbiter hitting it.  Amazing...

Yes, but the steeper downward facing angle in the camera left the lens all dirty after the first tumble of the booster. Well, until it reached the lower atmosphere!

Impressive splashdown:

It also gives a little better big picture of the rest of the descent since you can see the length of the booster down to the aft skirt...

Will they show the opposite side of the tank, so we can see the infamous plume up close?

Is it just me, or did guidance seem to wander around a lot more than usual?

Awesome videos.  That right hand SRB camera gave a great view until it got dirtied up.  I've made a few snapshots:
I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

No...these cameras are primarily to document the orbiter side of the tank (the more debris-critical side).
