On to Flight Day 6 and EVA-2

EVA-2 Preview from L2 information: http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=5267 - includes some FD5 at the start. Held off and wrote up a combined article on post FD5 and pre FD6 as I knew we'd get a load of good info from the end of day ISS On Orbit Status Report (L2) and thus a unique article, as opposed to quoting crewmembers from the PAO event (which you'll all of either seen or read on 101 other sites).

L2 Members, use the CLOUD, Hit STS-120, select EVA for checklists, handbooks and presentations

From the Flight Plan and Flight Plan Walkthrough (and just a snippet, which gives you an idea of complexity):

Modification via additional task of SARJ inspection noted in the above article, the below is inclusive:

FD6 – EVA 2
• EVA 2 Overview: Z1 to P6 umbilical disconnect; P6 detach from Z1; Node 2 outfitting
(install handrails, WIFs, gap spanners, and trunnion covers; remove CBM pip pins and petal
restraints); S1 SFU config for S1 radiator deploy; MBSU bypass jumper reconfig; RPCM
R&R; Node 2 PDGF install

• Assignments:
o MS1: EV1; FE-2 (up): EV3
o MS4: suit and task IV; ISS CDR: suit IV2
o MS2: M1; MS3: M2
o FE-2 (dn): M3
• EVA duration is 6:30. METOX is used.
• EVA Prep/Campout protocol: see FD4
• EVA 2 (EVA tasks and robotics):

? Z1 to P6 Umbilical Disconnect: Both EVs remove power and data umbilicals between
Z1 and P6, and place on dummy connectors.
? Detach P6 from Z1: EV1 engages the Z1 capture latch and breaks the torque on four
RTAS bolts while EV3 releases four grounding straps. Then EV1 releases RTAS bolts 4
and 2 while EV3 releases 3 and 1. Finally, EV1 releases the Z1 capture latch. Once all
four bolts are released and the EVs are clear, SSRMS demates P6 and maneuvers to
the handoff position.
? Node 2 Outfitting: EV1 installs handrails, WIFs, gap spanners, and trunnion covers;
and removes CBM pip pins and petal restraints. EV1 continues until EV3 is complete
with S1 SFU config, MBSU jumper reconfig, and RPCM R&R. Then both begin PDGF
install.
? S1 SFU Config for Cinch Firing: EV3 swaps S1 Squib Firing Unit connectors so that
S1 radiators can be deployed on FD7. This task also includes removal from the airlock
the new RPCM contained in an ORU bag.
? MBSU Bypass Jumper Reconfig: EV3 swaps connectors on an MBSU so P6 can be
powered once it’s installed on P5.
? RPCM S04B-C R&R: EV3 removes the failed RPCM, unstows the new RPCM from its
ORU bag, and installs the new RPCM. The failed RPCM is brought back in the airlock in
the same ORU bag.
? PDGF Install on Node 2: Both EVs remove the PDGF from its temp stowed location
tethered to Node 2, and install the PDGF using EDFs and horseshoe connectors. This
task is required for Node 2 relocation to Lab Fwd.
? Node 2 Outfitting (cont): Once PDGF install is complete, both EVs finish Node 2
outfitting tasks that were not completed earlier.
? EVA Cleanup/Ingress: The crew translates back to the airlock, performs tool inventory,
ingresses the airlock, and closes the hatch.
• Post EVA activities: After the EVs are back in the airlock, they perform Pre-Repress
connecting to SCUs, close the EVA hatch, and repress the crew lock to 14.7 psi. Post EVA

• Robotics:
? SSRMS starts off the day grappled to both the Lab PDGF and the MBS PDGF3 at WS4.
Prior to EV egress, the SSRMS base is changed from Lab PDGF to PDGF3 (if not
completed on FD5). Then SSRMS ungrapples the Lab PDGF and grapples P6. Once all
four P6 bolts are released and the EVs are clear, SSRMS demates P6 and maneuvers
to the handoff position where it remains overnight.
? SRMS is in precradle all day but the elbow camera is used for views.
• Photo/TV:
? P/TV07 is set up and used for EVA photography.
? During all ROBO procedures, the shuttle crew is required to configure shuttle cameras to
support SSRMS video. Therefore, CDR or PLT should be timelined for continuous EVA
and SSRMS P/TV during the EVA and robotics. The detailed pages reference the
applicable ROBO procedure in the P/TV activity.

• Maneuvers:
o The shuttle maneuvers the stack to a biased -XLV +YVV for the waste dump. The
maneuver back to TEA must be completed at least 3 hours prior to SSRMS P6 demate
so that momentum management can be activated and has time to settle out. The post
dump attitude handover is directly from VRCS to CMG-MM.
o After P6 demate and the start of maneuver to handoff, ISS performs a USTO TEA
maneuver after which UNIV PTG is updated. DAP A15 is maintained throughout the day
and a CNTL ACCEL update is made after P6 is in handoff position.
o The post water dump TEA is biased ~5Ί in orbiter roll from ISS -XVV to warm the shuttle
MLG. This attitude is held ~31 hours and is within the docked attitude envelope.
• IMU Star of Opportunity Align is scheduled early because once P6 is in the handoff
position, it blocks the -Y star tracker.

• SSPTS is deactivated via ground command prior to the EVA to ensure the EVs do not get
close to hot connectors, and prior to the water dump due to concerns with ISS power
generation.

Crew Wake-up!

The song was "What a wonderful world" by Louis Armstrong for Scott Parazynski.

As noted in today's execute package (see link above), independent verification of the TPS photography has uncovered a pull-up of an OMS pod blanket.  Consequently, clearance of the TPS for entry has been delayed.

At first glance, this issue seems nowhere near the pull-up observed on STS-117, but it's something to keep an eye on.

Additionally, after review of the SRB video, there was a debris event observed at 1:58 MET that hit the orbiter near the starboard main landing gear door.  TPS analysis confirms NO damage to the orbiter from this event.

And finally, the Debris Assessment Team has completed analysis of the TPS, finding:

Lower Surface:
-2 minor tile dings
-2 gap fillers
-2 slight protrusions near the nose landing gear

Upper Surface:
-6 gap fillers were noted on the OMS pods
-1 shallow ding was noted on the OMS pod

NONE of these present a concern for entry.

Clay is getting some work done in Destiny, while one of the spacewalkers is getting into his liquid cooling garment in Unity.

As far as the OMS pod blanket, with all due respect...

Sure would be interesting to find out how Clay managed to shave his head almost bald in zero-G.

I think that's what the execute package is hinting towards (albeit subtly).  It was totally skimmed over by the NASA imagery guys.  It wasn't caught until the independent analysts looked at it.  But we'll see how it plays out.

I don't know, but I suppose it would involve a lot of vacuuming.

She's wearing 2 of them, so it's likely one of them is the one from yesterday.
