DAT and Orbiter have reccomended to the MMT that no Focused Inspection will be required, by the way. MMT meeting about now, and will make the final decision.

Heh, that was spooky, Rob N notes MMT have actually officially decided that now :)

Why didn't they attach the Harmony node to its final position?

Can"t move it until Discovery departs.  They'll pick up PMA-2 off the forward end of Destiny, place in on the forward end of Harmony, then relocate the pair to the forward port of Destiny next month ahead of STS-122.  Long story short, Discovery is in the way ;) This has been the plan all along.

Looks like they are going to go have a visual inspection of the SARJ that is giving them some trouble...

Thanks for all the live updates guys. I'm at work on my ship with a slow inet connection so this thread helps me keep track of the mission. :)
Hoping for a future of NASA manned spaceflight

It's still mind-boggling for me to think that I saw Harmony sitting about fifty feet away from me in the SSPF back in June 2004.  Now it's zipping around the world at five miles-per-second.  Just unreal...

EDIT: Here's a snapshot.  The module in the foreground is MPLM Leonardo. (Forgive the poor resolution...the camera I had with me was a 2000-year model 1.3 mega-pixel piece of junk ;) )

It gets the job done. Yes, I get that feeling every time I see a shuttle on the pad, after getting the close-up tour back in the 80s. :)

Say, while they're not about to open the door to Node 2 today, they can peek in through the window, no? Can't they trun the lights on in there?

Mark

Brilliant coverage of the EVA by Zach and co. Thanks.

Looks like that's most of the day sorted, with no post-MMT briefing.

Will be writing up a "No FI" article with a load of info from L2 and some quotes from Mr Hale to keep us all occupied in the meantime.

This has got to be the smoothest flight since RTF.

Yes -- many thanks to Zachstar, dawei, sts1canada, eeergo, Ford, and of course Chris for all your efforts to share this EVA with all of us.  Doesn't get any better than this.

Amen to that! I haven't had consistent access to NASA TV since college (back when Endeavour still had that new-shuttle smell), but the "team coverage" here is the best I've found since then. Many thanks to all!

forgive me if this has already been asked, but is the installation of Harmony on Unity a much different procedure than the installation of the Leonardo logistics module?

yes

How so?

Sorry if I missed it but does the OBSS stay at the station this trip around and if so how will late inspections be handled? Seems nobody is discussing this.

I have a note in my STS/ET Inventory - Excel file saying "STS-122, can't carry the OBSS due to space, weight, cargo clearances or other issues"

Anybody know?

It will be left at the station during the STS-123 mission and be returned on the STS-124 mission.

Thanks, I originally noted STS-122, 123 and 124 were affected but now only STS-124 will launch without it.

(Late) Inspections will be handled via RMS, IIRC.. I saw it once before in a different thread, but that's what I remember..

When will they ingress into Node 2?
Tommorow.

Anyone knows who will be the first Astronaut to ingress into Node 2 ?
Maybe Paolo Nespoli ??  :)

Quick question, as I can't find the info anywhere.  Where is the final location for the PDGF (tethered today) on Node 2?  Is it near the Grapple Fixture, or across from it, or what?
