There's a lot of spare space in the cargo bay. Couldn't they fit another module in and do two trips for the price of one? Or put something else in. Seems a bit silly to only use half of the shuttle's capacity?

Doesn't work that way. It's about mass...and Node 2 pretty much "fills" the cargo bay by that limiting factor.

Harmony weighs in on approx. 33000 lbs so it is pretty heavy and this is based on vehicle performance.

What really matter is weight, not the actual size of the components. No other major component could be included in this flight unless you stripped Harmony of its interior components, forcing you to launch them in another flight and losing time installing them on orbit.

A bit of further discoloration, but still nothing to worry about.

What is monkey fur?  "look but don't touch"

"Monkey fur" is the seal on the edge of the payload bay doors.  It look like fur with a wax in it

Wow, thanks for the quick answer Chris and others. Love it here, and can tell my friends that answer and sound clever, as they asked about that too when they saw TV of the Shuttle yesterday :)

View from Scott's helmetcam of the Grapple fixture to be installed on Node 2.

Offline eeergo

Go to final release of the PDGF. A lot of no-touch areas.

In the image of the payload bay, you can see the "watchful open eye" of the node ;)
