Inspection team find ice on the LH2 umbilical. This is a violation. Being worked.

This has gone to the MMT. Image on the front page article. It could actually go away as the day goes on.

I highly doubt they can launch with it as is.

Also checking into increased He readings in Midbody. Nothing of concern right now, but they will watch to see if it's a leak.

If the ice does not go away, they will scrub at the point they are due to come out of the T-9 minute hold.

George Diller just commented a few moments ago that they were working no issues at the moment, and that weather was the only concern at the moment.  Is he not aware of the ice problem?

I guess NASA PAOs only know what they're told.

Great coverage Chris and the team.

Don't forget he's a commentator, not an actual controller or engineer, so data doesn't arrive to him as fast as to some other people, this site included ;)

Futhermore, I suppose he would stay cautious about calling out a problem until its threat had been confirmed.

It's not George Diller, and we're getting our updates via the actual MMT/MER. Trust me, we're right. (I'll try and show you an example...) :)

OK, basically, the team running the launch all have a version of MSN Messenger, where all the managers can list issues, everyone from the MMT to MER etc. get to see what is written. We're passed on this notes in real time for L2, via some NASA managers.

An example:

"2007:296:12:25:23
10/23/07 07:25:23 S&MA IPR-120V-0111 LCC ICE-01 Violation
Constraint to flight coming out of the T-9 hold. SL"

Which we post live into L2.

I paraphrase key elements into here for the rest of you.

Scary stuff... hope it melts away! Any previous history of these kind of problems that someone can remember?
