Ok folks, here we go with the third shuttle mission of the year.

LAUNCH PREVIEW ARTICLE: http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=5261 - will be updated throughout this launch attempt.

This is the live update thread for the launch. Should we have a successful launch, it will continue as the Flight Day 1 Live Update thread.

Below are the rules for what is always a very busy day on this site (please take note):

Firstly, if you are guest, please note it is reccomended that you create yourself a login, as we protect the site's servers in the event of overloading by making it member only, see here: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=10291&posts=4&start=1 (membership to the open sections of the site is free).

This is a live update thread, so we do not want any "woo hoo, go Discovery" comments clogging up the updates. We have a cheerleading thread for your best wishes: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=10134&start=1

We also have a seperate weather specific thread, for comments on the status of the pre-launch weather: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=10366&start=1

If you are in Florida for the launch and need tips on where to go for best viewing, we have a thread for that: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=9341&start=1

All NASA TV video for the mission is available - for free - here: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=9130&start=1

If you're learning about the Shuttle - and let's face it, we all are unless your Wayne Hale - you are encouraged to ask questions, but please keep them here: http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=6156&start=1

Moderators will delete - without notification - any posts that do not follow the above request.

For L2 users, we will have Specific Live sections, with live console notes (you'll get to see what's going on at MCC, MOD, MER, and with the MMT as they get to see them). I will copy some paraphrased notes of interest into this thread.

God Speed Discovery.

Here's a nice shot showing a clear view of one of the Tail Service Masts on the Mobile Launch Platform, connected to the aft end of Discovery.  For those who don't know (and those of us who didn't know until a flight or two ago :) ) the Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Hydrogen for the External Tank are fed from here, through the orbiter, to the tank during tanking.

Tanking is scheduled to begin tonight around 2am EDT.

EDIT: (and thanks to jmjawors for first pointing out this view in the just-finished Processing thread!)

As per S0007 doc on L2 (we're on the start of page 11 now - top left for tanking) - chill down is first.

Actual tanking is about 40 or so minutes away.

Any news on how the ECO sensors are working? Doesn't want to see a repeat of the STS-114 tanking tests considering this is ET-120 after all!

Is anyone else getting a dreadful ringing noise on the webcast?

EDIT: Just stopped.

(People answered yes, we don't need a thread full of "same here").
