I'm very thankful that they landed safely.  Even if they did not feel the contact they had to have known they were not in a safe place.  Wish I knew exactly how it happened.  However, speculation is probably something we should all stay away from for the time being.

GO2 Leak in panel on a valve in Storage Battery at pad (you could hear the leak).

Valve needs R&R - about a one hour job.

After listening to Kathy Winters, it sounds like we are heading for a 48 hour scrub if launch does not occur on Tuesday.

Well, she also said that the uncertainty is still very high about when the second front will get to the area.  If it changes speed either way -- which it could do several times -- that changes the forecasts.

Uncertainty was what I got out of yesterday's and today's weather briefings.

One thing about KSC, or in particular, Florida weather...it constantly changes.
I can recall pre-flight briefings in the past that indicated 30% chance of acceptable weather...and it turned out great.
I guess we'll just have to wait till Tuesday...

At the end of the briefing, Leroy Cain was talking about some event targeted for January.  What was that?  There's currently a December launch, and a February launch, but January?

A reporter was asking about January launch dates...in case STS-122 couldn't make the short December window.

I just noticed this shot of the Tanker at the base of the FSS (Fixed Service Structure) for PRSD (power reactant storage and distribution) Cryo Load.  While a picture of a tanker truck may not be all that interesting, I thought I would take second to point something out.

For those of you who don’t know, there is a common misconception that the PRSD load comes from the same pad area storage spheres used to load the shuttle’s external fuel tank, this is not the case.  Loading of the PRSD tanks, which provide oxygen and hydrogen for the fuel cells and oxygen for the environmental control and life support system, is done via tanker trucks positioned at the base of the FSS as seen here in the attached photo.  The cryos (liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen) are pumped into the left side of the orbiter through the OMBUU (orbiter mid body umbilical unit) located within the RSS (Rotating Service Structure).

I was hoping they'd "take" a different camera or pan a little bit to show both tankers...a few countdowns back, they did have OTV 036 up:

We are going to control this section carefully. We do not want 101 other threads, including a pre-emptive "stupid media" thread.

We end up talking about the stupid media on every mission - sure it's better to have that in this thread vs its own?

I was just shocked that Jay had the "gall" to remind Leroy that was on console when Columbia's crew died. It was a statement that was out of line in my book.

Didn't know that, but it makes sense - otherwise you'd waste as much or more cryo due to pre-chilling and boiloff just getting to the orbiter than it would take to fill the tanks themselves.

I have to agree with rdale on this one.  We have always started alternate threads to preserve the technical content of the processing thread.  What's different this time?

I understand there was a problem with ground-support equipment this morning.  Did cryo tanking begin on time?
