The amazing part to me is that the picture puts the size of that water tower in perspective.  Unreal...

Not sure where to post this question ...

Why was Wayne Hale quoted the other day as saying "Goal is to have a nice Christmas vacation where we can celebrate three successful flights this year."  (reference article titled "Discovery arrives at pad - STS-122 booster stacking begins")

We are still right on track for FOUR launches, aren't we?

Right now, it's still four launches this year. We think he was misquoted in the standup report/or simply made a mistake...but the short launch window for STS-122 and processing is very tight, so it might end up being a slip to very early Jan (making it three flights this year). I really did not want to change his quote without specific information saying it was a mistake.

Obviously, Hale is more of a realist than an optimist. :)

Yes, don't they generally coincide with the TCDT?  Also, if I'm not misstaken, the press kit should appear about the same time.  (looking over at all the iss-related press kits I have bound on my bookshelf ;) )

No. They're usually held at L-2 weeks.

I think that's what he meant by "coming up".

Wow..  talk about waiting until the last minute.

On another note a few weeks ago the family and I were out @ KSC and did the whole bus tour which included the prep room for the ISS components.  They still had Node 2 in there so it was kinda cool seeing it before it goes up.  We took quite a few pics if you'd like to see them.

I've seen the crawler image on the webcams a few minutes ago, too. I wonder if it really is heading back right now. Was it parked at the pad or are some tasks to do before it can head back?

Just parked. It was parked there just as it usually is following a rollout.

Just parked. It was parked there just as it usually is following a rollout.

And it usually stays there until a few days before liftoff in case they call for a rollback.  That way, if a rollback is ordered, they can do it in a timely fashion.

An amusing error on NASA STS-120 page...

Payload in Place
On Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the payload for mission STS-120 has been installed in space station Discovery's cargo bay.
