Orbiter Access Arm was (probably) moved to Discovery's hatch since she arrived.

Probably between now and the Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (10/10/07, last I checked, it may have changed now).  Usually, the press kits are out around a month before launch, but not always.  With the orbital ballet of station components on this flight it should be more interesting than usual!

Is it just me, or does this flight *seem* like the most complex Shuttle mission since the first Hubble servicing mission?

Unless there is an immediate rush, it should be sometime tomorrow (after APU hotfire test, would be my guess).

APU hotfire was scheduled for this afternoon. RSS move to mate position is scheduled for midday tommorow.

I thought the hotfire test would be pushed back due to rollout being delayed..?

No. Hotfire was briefly rescheduled due to the earlier planned rollout on Saturday evening instead on Sunday morning.

So by rolling out this morning, they are right on the revised pad time line bar chart dated Sept. 20 as it was timed to a early Sunday morning rollout and not a late Saturday rollout.

Just read that thread.  I see what is happening now.

So, RSS mate is midday tomorrow.

Good to see the vent duct through the open hatch, and O2 sensor display once again. :)

What is the maximum speed of the crawlers ?
1 MPH loaded, 2 MPH unloaded.

It's .8 MPH now .

Vibration test found .8 to have the least amount of vibration . Now to run over .8 you have to get NTD permission . Has not run 2MPH since early in the life of the CT's . I imagine they could run even faster but the belts and truck components would fail from vibration .

guess will will have the stop soon to cool down and repack the crawler bearings .
Nope. They haven't done that for a while now. So far all the rolls this year(117 rollout 1, 117 rollback, 117 rollout 2 and 118 rollout) haven't experienced any bearing slowdowns.

Dave did they change the bearing design and change out the bearings?

The shoes are still a bit too tight but we shimmed the overheating bearings to give them extra clearance to aid in the overheating . Also 1 bearing was replaced on CT1's C outboard truck . It was the last of the overheaters , and had spun in it's bore . The roller paths on the new shoes are alot tighter than the older shoes and took alot of "play" from the rollers . That led to sideloading of the rollers and forcing them into the endcaps of the bearings . Shimming fixed them , except the one on CT1 that was replaced , because it was damaged .

It lubricates the river rock so they slide against one another and the track shoes easier, producing less wear.

It would also tend to keep dust down where the rock is crushed.

The rocks are the lubrication .

The water is because they won't replace worn out river rock (not in the budget) . We (CT Crew) complained about the high amount of dust due to alot of spots being thin on rock and being mostly dust/dirt . Safety/ Environmental health came out and attached meters to the guys that sampled the air , the meters showed we were inhaling alot of dust (which is bad for you) . The dust was also getting into the DC propel motors on the trucks , which causes excessive and early wear .
The best fix was to get water trucks and spray the crawlerway infront of the rolling stack to reduce airbourne dust .

The wet rocks produce more mud , which gets into the belt . I'd imagine it will cause more wear in the long run because mud is liquid sandpaper and the water will displace the pin spray lube off of the shoe pins .

Generally we get a few surprises at the pad, but not usually the same ones twice ;)

I'm actually impressed at how smoothly the past few pad flows have been.  I'd say experience is making some difference.  I do recall quite a few shaky pad times in the past including numerous delays for weather, sensors, even pad aborts.  They seem to be long past now.  And on recent flights (except for the hail!) pad flows seem to be getting more nominal.

Did anyone happen to record the rollout today? These rollouts always seem to evade me and my attempts to record them.
