Super Heavy booster is stainless steel. Since it only goes to around Mach 8 or 9, moreover at high altitude, it needs no heat shield, not even paint.

"Only Mach 8 or 9"...

I like these underatatements ;)

I often marvel when I read Chris B’s posts about the uge number of report to mods he gets about some given post or poster or topic. So, like any good NSF geek would do, I created a poll...

I actually thought the show Maud was entertaining but since this is a party thread  I might have to report this poll because it is missing the most obvious other answer:
Purple

Grrrr - I can’t modify a poll? I totally forgot the “This poll annoys me, I’m reporting it to the mods” entry, along with “Purple”

Report to mods - can you pleeeeease add these to the poll? Lar???

No fair - I already voted! And how could you have put a serious choice, and the first one at that, in a party thread poll?

I had this weird dream last night that had to do with the Arabsat 6A mission.

What happened was everything went as planned up until the side boosters began their boostback burns. As soon as the boosters' restartable engines lit up, the booster headed to LZ-1 (I don't know if it's the PY or NY booster) suddenly exploded. The good news was that the other side booster landed at LZ-2 without any issues.

Next, the center core finished its ascent burn and separated to descend to the drone ship; it survives the extremely hot reentry and lands safely. However, as soon as the MVac engine started up for its first burn, a LOX valve within the engine began to leak, causing a thrust underperformance. Even though the MVac had to burn longer to compensate, the vehicle achieves the planned parking orbit.

Finally, the MVac restarts despite the LOX leak, but the second stage does not achieve the planned GTO parameters since the LOX tank ran out completely, leaving a small amount of RP-1 in the other tank. Arabsat 6A does get deployed into the lower-than-planned orbit, but uses a good chunk of delta-v to reach its geostationary destination. As a result, its lifespan is decreased by a few years.

This is Recovery; the center core has landed. All landing operators, proceed to Procedure 11.000 on ECRY and ECF9 Net.

You don't happen to work for a launch insurance company, do you? Cause that kinda stuff is their worst nightmare ;)

If the rocket just 'splodes, that's fine. You just pay out and raise future launch insurance premiums.
But underperformance, but somehow limps to orbit... that means months and months of lawyers arguing about how much this reduced the lifespan, how much extra depreciation this caused, how much revenue was expected to be lost based on expected revenue in the later years of the sat when it might or might have been outdated but still working... its basically just a big headache for everyone involved.

In some cases this was settled with "here, take the money, but then we own the satellite and try to make the best of it (like a slow scenic drift-trip through L2, around the moon to somehow still get into GEO) and if we succeed we lease the sat back to you...

This dream just happened out of the blue, but I don't constitute that as a nightmare.

The next launch is a Falcon Heavy, that is so stupid hot to think about.

I’d love to see 3 or 4 of these beasts a year.

There's been a LOX tanker sitting on the side of the highway about 10 miles east of the pad all morning. A broken down truck might explain the lack of a test attempt today. An LCH4 tanker is sitting all sad and alone near the solar field.
More importantly, the A/C in my van works again.

10 miles east of the pad?
Yes, I think I might know why its broken down.

Well on the bright side, if they built a highway out there, this will make the entire artificial island idea for launch much more viable.
