A Protocol for Messaging to Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
http://arxiv.org/abs/1101.4968v1

"An advanced civilization within a radius of 100 light years could detect our television shows and already know we are here"

"Extraterrestrials may react to an intentional or unintentional human broadcast with war, benevolence, apathy, or suicide, depending on their ethical framework"

Keep Jim away from the microphone.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

I thought that all our unintended signals would vanish in cosmic static long ago before arrival at Alpha Centauri?

AFAIK any signals that we send - and anyone out there have any nonneglible chance to detect - was deliberate.
Be successful.  Then tell the haters to (BLEEP) off. - deruch
...and if you have failure, tell it anyway.

This will be the next "threat to national security" after the terrorists have stopped.

What threat do you see from this that would be more than terrorism?

None, according to the opening post there is at least a chance they may all kill themselves.  I recommend beaming out continuously episodes of "Jersey Shore".  That should up our chances for the suicide option.

Actually, after going to the site, I actually think the previous submission is even more ludicrous!

It talks about "hot-spots" that power Iceland.  Duh....we call it "Iceland" for a reason, it can't be "hot".  Silly scientists.  ;)
