Post by: zubenelgenubi on 04/26/2024 05:39 pm
Thread for the Starlink 6-57 group launch.

Launch 6 May 2024, at 18:14:00 UTC (2:14 pm EDT), from CCSFS SLC-40, on booster 1069-15.  The first stage will land aboard Just Read The Instructions.

Payload 23 Starlink V2 Mini satellites to 43 degree inclination orbit on a southeastern trajectory.  Initial orbit 284 x 292 km.

Please use the Starlink Discussion Thread (https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=48297.0) for all general discussion on Starlink.

Noting:
Well more NOTAMs for yet another Starlink launch from the Cape has been filed...and it's Group 6-54 that was never explicitly filed with the FCC (but which a recent "generic" communication license has been granted for such launches).

Starlink 6-55 is currently scheduled to launch from SLC-40 on May 2 UTC.

And:
Ben Cooper's Launch Photography Viewing Guide (https://www.launchphotography.com/Launch_Viewing_Guide.html); updated April 26; my bold:
Quote
The next SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch two Galileo navigation system satellites for Europe from pad 39A on April 27 at ~8:35 p.m. EDT. A Falcon 9 will launch a Starlink batch from pad 40 on April 28 at 5:50-9:50 p.m. EDT. A Falcon 9 will launch a Starlink batch from pad 40 on May 1 around 9:30 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. EDT. Upcoming launches include more Starlink batches.

And:
NSF Launch Roundup: SpaceX to land its 300th booster, NASA tests a solar sail, and China launches three more taikonauts (https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2024/04/launch-roundup-042224/), April 22, by Martin Smith
Quote
[Galileo-FOC Flight 12 could be the last or the penultimate launch from LC-39A before it is reconfigured for Falcon Heavy which is expected to lift the GOES-U mission in late June. These preparations can typically leave a gap of around 40 to 50 days between the previous use of the pad and a Falcon Heavy launch.

And, assuming that SpaceX intends to continue Starlink Group 6 launches to fulfill their FCC request, here follows...

My thoughts:

Starlink 6-56 could be the next Florida Starlink launch.  Extrapolating logistics forward, launch NET would be circa May 5, from SLC-40, with JRTI catching the first stage.

There could be a Starlink launch from LC-39A circa 10 days after the Galileo-FOC launch.

However, SpaceX may choose to interleave launches from Groups 6, 7, and 8.

A reasonable assumption would be that the Florida Starlink Group 8 launches will start with Starlink 8-4, only after Starlink 8-2 and 8-3 launch from Vandenberg.  So, not quite yet, but NET May.

Particularly, Starlink 7-28 is apparently also eligible for launch now/in the nearest future?

Also:
Two NGA Space Debris notices (the same notice for two different Navigational Areas).

Note that these notices are effective from 00:01 to 23:59 UTC every day through May 31, so they are multi-launch notices.

Okay, something's going on, because this weather forecast says 6-57. Either incorrect information is being posted by someone(s), or SpaceX swapped the mssions after the S2 NOTAMs came out.

I guess we'll have to wait for the SpaceX mission webpage to know for sure.

That's for tomorrow, so it actually needs to go in the topic currently known as 6-56 and both topics need to be renamed. 😬

What was that callout at T+4:02?

"Star?link Orbital Configuration signal confirmed"

Seems like a new call or a mic that isn't usually on the net

They have made FCC filings about testing Starlink antennas on some of these flights

T+3 and fairing separation
Was there any info about why some satellites look different (black vs white edge)? Doesn't look like direct to cell to me.

Some reusability stats for this launch (Starlink Group 6-57):

Booster B1069.15 turnaround time:
31 days 9 hours 2 minutes
(its previous mission was Starlink Group 6-47 on Apr 5, 2024 UTC).

FYI: median turnaround time for Falcon 9 / Heavy boosters is currently 39.22 days *
* – based on the last 30 launches, excluding new first stages.

Launchpad SLC-40 turnaround time:
3 days 15 hours 37 minutes
(the previous launch from this pad was Starlink Group 6-55 on May 3, 2024 UTC).

This launch campaign currently holds the second best turnaround time for SLC-40, with the record set at 2 days, 20 hours, and 0 minutes between the launches of Starlink Group 6-48 and Starlink Group 6-49 in April, 2024.

FYI: median turnaround time for SLC-40 is currently 5.08 days *
* – based on the last 30 launches.

The same type of stats for previous SpaceX launches may be found on this spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WwD3CzpKR6vNgYS3QlxoOK9WLi81fof9zRiXzGCnbwo/edit?usp=sharing) online.

Catch-up: Available first stages, with UTC date of most recent recovery:
1069.15  Apr 5
1073.15  Apr 7
1083.3    Apr 10
1062.21  Apr 13 (likely out of rotation for extensive engineering analysis)

May 5: It's B1069.15.

SpaceX is fast... but not that fast.

Falcon 9 is inbound to Port Canaveral.. sadly not the one that just launched 15 minutes ago but from the Starlink mission on Monday. 📸 nsf.live/spacecoast

Could be testing thermal tweaks?  The black surfaces reduce visibility of the satellite, but can also heat it up.

“Tank(?) orbital initiation signal confirmed”
Sounded like "Think" to me.  Was thinking at first it must be "Starlink" that was cut off, but that doesn't quite sound right.
