Title: Q&A Space Ex. Dragon-2 reuse
Post by: Hog on 03/11/2019 05:06 pm
Is it true that Dragon-2 aka human rated Dragon capsule, once operational, will only be used "Crew Transport" to/from ISS ONCE then will be reused for "Cargo Only" missions.

Assume Dragon-2 is indeed only to be used once for a single "Crew-Up/Down" rotation.  Is the subject of using a D-2 capsule for more than a single Crewed ISS mission subject to anymore discussion, or is the "single human mission only" a "hard" requirement?

thanks in advance

That is the current plan. Much like the cargo capsules, the requirement for a new capsule for each crew rotation will allow SpaceX to build up a fleet of Dragon v2 capsules that can then be reused for cargo missions, and once that reuse is certified, they will be available for other uses.

But none will be adapted for the larger berthing? So all large cargo will be moved by Cygnus?

Both Cygnus and Dream Chaser will provide berthing.  Current integration task orders have been issued for: Cygnus berthing; Dream Chaser berthing and docking; Dragon 2 docking.

Other options remain open; see Audit Of Commercial Resupply Services to the International Space Station (https://oig.nasa.gov/docs/IG-18-016.pdf), NASA OIG, Apr 26, 2018 (excerpt attached).
