Tiantong-1 (01) mobile communications satellite to be launched from Xichang in early August.
-
This is a (civillian?) mobile comsat operated by China SatCom so I guess it's the same satellite as the "S-band mobile communication satellite" that has been floating around for some time and might be a descendant of the CMMB project. ::)

I thinking that Tiantong-1 might be first operational one with previous being experimental.

Yes and rumors are pointing to the launch date being on August 5.
I also retract my previous guess that this is a civilian satellite - the lack of info clearly points to it being of military nature.

Still no NOTAMs for this launch?
Nope.....but rumors point to (https://twitter.com/cnspaceflight/status/761195781730689024) launch being on tomorrow at 15:00 - 15:30 UTC. :-X

So presumably launch codename will be "07-73"

Judging from the fact that http://www.chinaspaceflight.com/satellite/tongxin/Tiantong-1/Tiantong1-01.html (http://www.chinaspaceflight.com/satellite/tongxin/Tiantong-1/Tiantong1-01.html) didn't have much info either, I guess there's not much to write about it.... :-X
(heck, I wouldn't be surprised if a different public name for the satellite is adapted for use!)

A1981/16 (Issued for ZGZU ZSHA) - A TEMPORARY RESTRICTED AREA ....
As usual for CZ-3B NOTAMed drop zones correspond to boosters and fairing debris only

长征三号乙运载火箭的发射时间是8月6日00:22,将是西昌卫星发射中心的第99次卫星发射任务。任务代号应该是07-73
Automatic translation: Long March 3B launch time is at 00:22 on August 6, it will be the 99th satellite launch mission Xichang Satellite Launch Center. Task code should be 07-73
I only have 98 launches on my tables. Can someone please verify this?

From Chinese microblogging (approximate translation from Chinese):
"Just now there's been a satellite launch; I thought it was an earthquake; on this point Xichang is not good!"

With the rare sub-orbital launches from here it should be even higher than 99. Ill do so checking of yours against aniks recently updated spreadsheets.

Well, it looks like that the satellite isn't as secret as we thought - this satellite, China's first mobile communications system sat, was apparently conceived after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, when the Chinese had to rely on the likes of Inmarsat and Thuraya for emergency comms.

I would go for SkyCom(munication).

USSTRATCOM has issued a TLE of Tiantong 1 that confirms that it was the UNID that Cees Bassa found on some of Paul
Camilleri's images of 2016 Aug 11 UTC. It was drifting west at about 0.5 deg/d when Paul imaged it on Aug 11 and 13 UTC.
It is now synchronous near 101.4 E, in a 5 deg inclined orbit.
