Title: Delta K Upper Stage 'RACS' System
Post by: Kartoffelkuchen on 12/26/2014 05:51 pm
Hello guys, this is my first post here, and I hope you can help me.
So, I am trying to replicate the Delta II rocket, for a game called Kerbal Space Program, some of you might heard of this game already. So, I'm hanging on now on the Delta K upper stage. I used the Delta II Payload Planners Guide from the ULA Homepage as main reference, and it says there, that the Delta K has a 'RACS' System, which helps the stage to keep pointing in the right direction during unpowered flight. I've looked at some images now, but I can't figure out where the thrusters for this system are. Is there any specialist out here who knows anything about this? This would be so, so helpful! ::)

Here's one drawing that may help.

This is from the following paper.

Note that this is the ITIP powered Delta 3920 second stage, which predated the AJ10 powered Delta 2 second stage but which shared many features.

The large version of the following image may show that RACS module section.  RACS was/is a cold gas thruster system, so it has small "thrusters".

You might want to search the images regarding the to-be-launched SMAP mission - on a Delta 2.

Lots of High-def pictures, of the upper stage aswell.

I think these 2 might be of particular interest to you:
