Now, lockheed's SM is clearly differant then what DAC-2 specified. If Lockheed wins, will they be allowed to build the SM how they want?

Interesting artwork. First time I've ever see *air* gush by the CEV in *space* !! :)
rsp1202 - 31/7/2006 6:12 PMHere's the ad/mock-up.
This is new, a "live" shot with techs standing around it as it sits on a test jig. It's hard to tell, but one of their computer monitors looks like it's showing a view of CEV's interior with control panel, etc.

I held a ruler up to the screen, and the guy with the silver hair is almost exactly 1/3rd the height of the CEV. If the CEV is 5.5m in diameter, that'd make him almost 6 feet tall, which seems reasonable.
gladiator1332 - 1/8/2006 3:07 PMWho won't be! :)
I think some of the Apollo astronauts are going to be very jealous of the Orion astronauts.

But isn't the CEV 5 m in diameter now?
HailColumbia - 31/7/2006 10:26 PM Looks a lot bigger there then it does in those DAC-2 Drawings.
Its always good to have something next to it you can relate size to. It looks like it could hold 4 crew members comfortably, still not quite sure how 6 might work though.

I like how one of the lockheed photos shows the CEV/SM in orbit with the launch escape system still attached. I think i read on the side of the CEV "I hauled 4t to orbit and all I got was this stupid beanie!"

Wow that's a big capsule. What is that textured material, insulation?
