"Science fiction has dreamed of diamond planets for many years, so it's amazing that we finally have evidence of its existence in the real universe," said study leader Nikku Madhusudhan, a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University.

My question is, "If warp drive or wormholes are developed, what would we do with that many tonnes of diamonds?"

I mean, sure, we could use and wear a few hundred tonnes, maybe, but a whole planet's mass of diamond?

Oh, somebody would make facet work of it, I'm sure ... ;)

I don't think this is what the Q&A section is intended for.

Any civilization advanced enough to make warp drive could probably synthesize diamonds more cheaply than going to a diamond planet to get them.

In Advanced Concepts we have threads on Warp Drive and wormholes already. Some folks (very few, I admit) think there may be a path from now to that advanced civilization. Maybe we need to work on synthesized diamonds in huge quantities now. But that's not my question so let me rephrase it.

"What beneficial use is there for large quantities of (extremely large) diamonds?" Would diamond work in a nuclear light-bulb engine? But DMeader may be right, this is quite a stretch from reality.

We don't need warp drives, both Uranus and Neptune are theorized to have diamond seas and rains...

Isn't "It's Raining Diamond's" a Weather Girls song ;)

If diamonds will be cheap, they will be more widely used in industry (such as semiconductor), but will stop being regarded as particularly attractive gemstone.

For the appalling percentage of people, "he has expensive things" is the sole measure of status. They'd wear dog shit if it would become a costly rarity.

Well you could always just drill a well for them ;)

btw. It is well documented that diamond are more common and the prices are inflated compared to other precious stones.

Imagine a diamond moon... though things might get dicey during a solar eclipse ;)
