Wake up song was "Fly Me to the Moon" for Nicole.
Happy Thanksgiving wishes sent back and forth between Nicole and CAPCOM.
And, for those paying attention, the Shuttle symbol on the main display board in MCC is a Turkey for the day.
And (from me), Happy Thanksgiving to all the men and women of STS-129.
-
And the wakeup song was by Frank Sinatra.
-
Flight day 11 Execute package is available:

-
The space turkey Atlantis soaring over Russia...
-
IFM proceedure included in the above. Can't beat a large screwdriver!
-
Just over two hours to the FCS checkouts.
-
SEITE Burn - both OMS - good burn. Raised the orbit.
The SEITE burn is an 18 foot per second dual OMS burn. The burn was radial down (nose to the Earth) such that the burn plume will be observed by the orbiting C/NOFS satellite.
-
Working IMU Align.
-
Atlantis camera views ahead of her FCS checkout.
-
These camera movements are controlled from the ground.
-
Is SEITE burn part of the Ram Burn Observations (RAMBO-2) experiment?
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/science/experiments/RAMBO.html
or is it this ? Shuttle Exhaust Ion Turbulence Experiments (SEITE)

-
45 mins to the FCS checkouts.
-
And we're onboard with the crew via Ku.
-
No action on the FES L1 until after the SIMPLEX burn.
Charlie was diving into the middeck at the time. Shoots back up, doesn't bother with the loop - just gives the "OK" sign to the camera :)
-
Getting ready for RCS.
-
Live view from the flight deck as the "turkey" passes Chile.
-
Check out the background image on the laptop to the left hand side of the image :)
-
Will be transitioning Atlantis' DAP for this op.
-
APU start to power the FCS.
-
APU 3 being used for this checkout.
-
Anyone know where I can find the PLB camera pan/tilt angles for FCS C/O?
-
APU shut-down.
-
We had no Ku for the FCS movements :(
Good checks, however.
APU3 shutdown.
-
RCS checkout in an hour.
-
Scorch, Butch, Leland and Mike is preparing for the RCS test on the flight deck.
-
Very quiet on the loop.
-
Entry team (no Orbit 1 - they've done their job for the mission.
-
Watch out for the floating checklists ;)

EOM-1; Flight Controllers Review Thermal Margin Control for Atlantis - by Chris Gebhardt.
http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2009/11/eom-1-flight-controllers-review-thermal-margin-control-for-atlantis/
-
All FCS checkouts now complete. RCS checkouts in 30 mins.
-
RCS hotfire ahead of schedule. First pulse was good.
-
First two rounds of pulses are good. One to go.
-
On the feed you can see some of the flashes. Crew turn Atlantis' flight deck lights off to watch/monitor.
Good RCS checkout confirmed.
-
Lights back on. Happy crew, happy orbiter.
-
Some stowage may be out of config. Ground want video to have a look - doesn't sound like a biggy.
Over two hours to the next event: SIMPLEX Burn.
-
Here's the video they promised.
-
There's an ISS panel in the way of some straps. MER will have a look at the config.
-
Here's the panel:
-
It's strapped and braced, but those cords seem to be in the way.
-
MER guys in later, they'll work it out. Charlie says "Wish them a happy thanksgiving from me".
-
Eh! Looks a lot like when I am packing my car for a holiday trip :-D
-
Here's the panel:
Gotta love Duct Tape... :)
-
Eh! Looks a lot like when I am packing my car for a holiday trip :-D
Heh yeah, I was thinking that too! (My car that is ;D)
-
ABC Radio and two local stations:
-
Time to go out and wave! ;)
-
Is SEITE burn part of the Ram Burn Observations (RAMBO-2) experiment?
Per L2, RAMBO-2 was removed from this mission because the observing satellites were just launched in late September so not fully functional yet.
-
One way the STS-129 crew is giving thanks (on this mission, during Thanksgiving, and continuing a tradition flown on all shuttle flights) is to fly the Official Flight Kit, a collection of mementos for organizations inside and outside of NASA that have supported their mission.
Here's the STS-129 manifest: http://www.collectspace.com/news/news-112509a.html#ofk
-
Thunderstorms.
-
Some amazing thunderstorm views:
-
Really hard to screenshot!
-
-
Good one:
-
Stunning thunderstorms. Whereabout is this?
-
Over Indonesia. Very active.
-
Simplex burn in 50 mins.
-
And these look like cities, not thunderstorms.
-
Cool. Thanks Chris. Are they filming this from the flight deck?
-
Cool. Thanks Chris. Are they filming this from the flight deck?
Nope, Atlantis' payload bay cams. Probably setting up for the SIMPLEX.
-
For the SIMPLEX:
The SIMPLEX burn is an 18 foot per second dual OMS burn. The burn will be radial up (tail to the Earth) such that the burn plume will be observed by the Arecibo ground station.
-
MER folks not in work yet (for the stowage issue).
"If they are just coming in for this, tell them not to bother" - Charlie.
"No, they are coming in normal shift" - Fergie.
-
More:
-
Orbital sunrise:
-
PAD sent up for the OMS 2 TIG for SIMPLEX.
-
20 mins to SIMPLEX - and it seems that is almost immediately followed by the PAO event.
-
-
Good config for the burn.
-
Nice flash as both OMS Engines kick in.
Good burn, no trim required.
-
PAO event coming up next.
-
ABC Radio is live.
Liking Gina's questions. Flyaround and how Atlantis is doing on her second to last mission.
This crew note the teamwork of the crew, no words for Atlantis (sobs ;))
Then the expected baby and thankgiving question. Also one for Nicole on painting. Paint kit remains on ISS. How they find American rules football in space.
Mike Foreman's last spacewalk. Again the "proud of the team" comments come back.
-
Tampa station on, journalist had a fan moment, gets excited on hearing Nicole recognize him, saying Nicole is his hero :)
Nicole says she wasn't ready for the darkness of space and the brigtness of Earth. Tying to look out of the window as often as possible.
Nicole plans to head home the next day after landing. Might get to go to a class reunion.
This reporter is a huge fan, really nice guy (anyone know who he is? Russell someone).
-
Another local station on, but don't realize they are on ;D We've got dead air folks! Maybe not, might of been on an adbreak. This is obviously live.
Station is local to Randy.
Food questions.
How the mission has gone.
Baby questions.
Randy answers the "being in the ISS is the only excuse for missing a birth" with "we need to remember the 1000s of military who are in the same situation."
-
That's over with.
-
That's pretty much it until the comm checks and Ku stow in about four hours. MSB inbetween?

I'm not at home in Tampa right now so I didn't catch the local event, but if it was a Russell, you are probably referring to Russell Rhodes on Fox 13. He is a nice guy and is a fantastic on-air personality.
-
Cool, thanks.
Orbit 2 on console now.
-
Throw the timeline out of the window, they are already into L-1 Comm Checks.
Testing MILA.
-
Two orbits before they can test Dryden.
-
I don't think MaxQ did the NASA Thankgiving video. It's VERY 1987! :o
-
Well Orbit 2 are now on console (must have been a handover period before).
Charlie thanks them again for coming in early on their holiday.
(And sure is a big holiday it seems, the site is about 40 percent down on a normal Thursday - and this is during a mission).
-
Very nice twilight pass over center Italy a few minutes ago: ISS followed by Atlantis a few seconds behind.
I waved hello :-D
-
TPS officially cleared for entry by DAT.
-
That's pretty much it until the comm checks and Ku stow in about four hours. MSB inbetween?
Yes Chris, there is ;)
-
Huzzah! It's Sir Rob of Navias on the PAO console now.
-
Ha!!! They have a turkey icon in the ISS control room to mark the station's position!
-
Oh the hilarity ;)
-
Preview of the Soyuz landing, in sub zero (English money) temps. First Soyuz landing in December since 1990.
-
-
Brian -
Big news is the TPS has been cleared for entry. All 38 thrusters checked out during RCS checkout.
Good for EOM+3.
Friday: KSC only - weather looking great.
Saturday: All three CONUS.
Sunday: Systems wave off day.
12:28 Central wake up tomorrow. 3:43 deorbit preps. 5am PLBD closure.
-
-
Oh the hilarity ;)
Mentioned the third post of this thread. ;) :D
-
Gina asking if they are having entry DTO on Atlantis (The BLT DTO - no).
Bill Harwood in no question shocker! :)
Marcia asking about Thankgiving, where the turkey came from - Brian doesn't look at menus ;D
Going to dump the CWC to test the plumbing in the Waste Water system - they will do a IFM tomorrow if they wave off.
James Dean on Weather.
Brian - things are looking good, headwinds are the only thing they are watching.
James wants to know what consumables are.
LiOH. Cryos for FC (15 hours above three days). Water, nitrogen. LiOH is the limiter.
Brian a bit baffled about being asked about what the shuttle endures during entry.
Two ops to land at KSC Friday and Saturday.
End of MSB.
-
Sunday: Systems wave off day.
Never seen this before, what does it mean?
Looks good for a first attempts landing tomorrow. When was the last time the shuttle had a first attempt launched and a first attempt landing?
-

It's a reserve day in case they can't do the deorbit burn on the previous attempts - say via a GPC issue etc.
-
180 mins from Ku retract.
Survey of the PLB ongoing.
-
-
Sunday: Systems wave off day.
When was the last time the shuttle had a first attempt launched and a first attempt landing?
STS-126.
-
And there's one of the radiator retract hoses that were misbehaving on some flights (and pad flows) last year.
http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2008/02/sts-122-success-hose-retracted-atlantis-ready-for-countdown/ - other articles linked on that page too.

Preview of the Soyuz landing, in sub zero (English money) temps. First Soyuz landing in December since 1990.
RE: sub zero temps....no problem for a Canadian astronaut like Bob Thirsk, eh ??..:)
-
-
Another radiator retract hose. Looks fine - though the problem they had was kinking in the freon hose during retract. Hasn't been a problem for several flghts now.
-
And another hose (there's four).
-
Two player split screen hose fun:
-
CWC Dump, but it's at a reduced rate. Not sure how that'll play into the Waste Water big picture.
-
Sunday: Systems wave off day.
When was the last time the shuttle had a first attempt launched and a first attempt landing?
STS-126.
No, it landed at Edwards due to bad weather at KSC.
-
Checked some, STS-124 was the last time a shuttle launched and landed at first attempt.
Orbiter

90 mins to the Ku stow - which is the last event of the FD.
Crew carrying out final stowage tasks.
-
KU band stow in 10 mins. If someone could keep an eye on things, it'd be appreciated - got an external issue to deal with over here :)
-
In the process of conducting a waste water dump through the Flash Evaporator system.
(I'll cover you, Chris)
-
Rob Navis noting this as a textbook flight, everything going as planned. Landing weather for the Cape tomorrow looks good for a first rev landing.
-
Megan called up for a LiOH changeout, Scorch responded "Getting a little high, is it?".
This crew has one of the most laid back atmospheres I've seen yet.
-
No word on the KU Band Antenna stowage, I assume they're into the procedure though.
-

The Ku antenna was stowed at 2:34 PM EST.

Friday: KSC only - weather looking great.
Saturday: All three CONUS.
Sunday: Systems wave off day.
I just watched the briefing (thanks as always John44). The above is incorrect. What Bryan said, twice actually, was:
Friday: KSC only, two attempts
Saturday: KSC only, two attempts
Sunday: All three, aka "pick 'em"
Monday: Systems wave off day (EOM+3)
I'm particularly sensitive to this, since I'm hoping to see/hear a landing while I'm down in Florida :)
-
Thanks Steven. Hadn't planned the groceries as hoped!
Or in the style of Navias...."half a ton of Bergin and car taking aim on the supermarket for milk. The cow-based fluid's destiny with cornflakes expected early on FD 12." ;D

Crap! I knew that. NO idea why I posted the above. Have it correct later in the thread, but no wonders I got jumped on for that ;)

Personally the association of either ISS or shuttle with a turkey disturbs me. "Houston, Tranquility base here. The Turkey has landed."
-

For once I think this is funny. It's a great follow-through for the whole mission: daily execute packages and all. It's been fun reading.
Come on, we might not get this opportunity in another year, enjoy it! I am!
I also hope Nicole can make it to her class reunion on the weekend. However from past experience with other long-duration ISS members, it will be tough. I'm sure even Bob Thirsk will be in some some trying days after he lands. Six months in zero g is a long time.
-
If Atlantis land tomorrow how long will it be then a Shuttle launch on the first attempt and land on the first attempt?
-

She was there for 3 months, so hopefully she can pull it off :)

Is Ben Franklin in the MCC? He might approve :)
