Execute package:
http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/405779main_fd07_exec_pkg.pdf (http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/405779main_fd07_exec_pkg.pdf)
Has potential EVA3 re-plans with some new heat exchanger clamp work being discussed.
This leads us to begging Chris for MSG 21-0489 (129-063), the briefing package on the Heat Exchanger TA clamps.

Today's NASA TV schedule (rev I)
-
There's the news on the lead mainstream media story for this mission -- NASA TV replayed audio of Randy Bresnik calling down to Mission Control that Rebecca Bresnik gave birth last night and mother and baby are doing well.
-
Sounds like they are wrapping up the MRM-2 testing this morning, too.
-
Congrats to the Bresniks.
-
You saw an interesting insight then, when Randy was talking about how it'll be a safe landing and how Rebecca talked about the NASA support for when she went to the launch.
Once heard about the work the astronaut family support people do, especially after Columbia.
PS I really want that shuttle model! :)
-
Obviously not much going on, seen as it's off duty for everyone right now - but yet there's a lot of excerising going on.
-
I've already warned him about posting Direct comments on Ares I threads ;)
-
If anyone is interested.... this is coming up in 20 minutes

Crossing Europe heading into night.... thats it for me for a while...
-
It sounded like one of the station's laptops had a backlight go out on it's LCD screen. The crew is in process of swapping out the hard drive to a replacement computer.

long LOS coming up.. about 17 minutes..

OH... thank goodness. I leave for 20 minutes to run an errand and come back and all I see on my video feed is the screen spinning out of control.... glad it was only the SRB's and not the ISS... .lol
-
Was trying to catch the intertank due to the problems with it - but we can't really see the bottom of the tank on these videos.
-
will try for some shots... sorry, missed the first round

Nice Earth shots on the left booster.

Just concluding todays DPC (daily planning conference).
- if there is an alarm again tonight that interrupts the campout they will immediately default to the exercise protocol and not bother with the masks to try to preserve the campout procedure...
- Completed some Cardiovascular scans and downloaded today... All the ultrasound h/w that was replaced is tested out and fully functional.
- as mentioned before - no MSB today -
-
Butch wants a private chat with Megan...
...and the whole world knows.
[edit] Butch says "you can bring PAO in on it"
sigh, a private chat including PAO doesn't sound so private... heh heh
-
Great work documenting the day Roger.
Just noticed the post from earlier saying the MSB was cancelled. Sign of an issue free orbiter etc.
-
Crew winding down and getting ready for their sleep shift....
-
back in daylight.. .heading to the coast of Australia...

Crossing Australian Coast
-
Crew choice HD downlink coming up. ;D
That was nice, got to see the interior of the new Russian module in a end to end tour. :D
-
Crew into mask prebreathe. Hatch should have closed 5 minutes ago. Campout begins.
-
From the flight day highlights - American Helmet Ball in Space (football to us north americans) :)
-
replay of the passing out of cigars to celebrate the birth today. hopefully they are just ceremonial - BUT if the fire alarm goes off tonight this may explain it... :)

-
Replay of the station tour today... Here is the New MRM2 module
John44 - Any chance you can (or have??) post just the station tour??
-
In case anyone wondered where ELC1 and 2 are located
-
Crew wakeup times.
-
So now the flight day highlights package runs for a full hour (on a day off) so the PAO has just enough time to come on and say it is time to run the flight day highlights package again (and again, and again).

Which is a good thing. I'm not sure if you listen much during the sleep periods during normal ops, but when the crew is asleep - nothing happens. There's no space/ground comms. So you'd be looking at a blank screen with no sound, or we can get highlights.

true but the back rooms are cranking on tomorrow's plans! Lots going on behind the scenes.

An excuse to congratulate people from Salt Lake City (ATK people) for winning the MLS championship over LA in Seattle just now in the global version of football. Shock win.

FD8 Execute package is available:
http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/405939main_fd08_exec_pkg.pdf
-
Todays EVA is planned to start at 7:18 am EST
-
EVA prep is ongoing in Quest. Once again we have Nicole Stott and Butch Wilmore helping out.
-
Comm caps going on.
-
Comm checks
-
Todays EVA will is planned to take 5 hours 45 minutes. The first 3 hours will be the installation of the new HPGT and MISSE 7. The rest will be get-ahead tasks.
-
Bob Thirsk is preparing the RWS
-
It sounds like they are planning to finish all get-ahead tasks they have.
-
Bobby is in the bottom half part of his EMU.
-
Bobby in his torso.
-
Komrade in the lower part of his EMU.
-
Komrade in his torso (you can see his arms sticking out in the lower part of the picture)
-
It sounds like they are planning to finish all get-ahead tasks they have.
And they have dropped the HX Clamp Release tasks which popped up in yesterdays execute package.
Analyst
-
We are back in the A/L and both Bobby and Komrade have their helmets on and purge has begun.
-
Valve failure on EV2 (Bobby)
-
They will depress the A/L down to 10.2 psi again to change out the valve.
-
EVA will start around an hours late because of valve trouble on Bobbys EMU.
-
The troubling valve is reinstalled in Bobbys EMU.
-
only time for one post this morning.... .Installing SAFER
-
Bobby being moved into the crew lock.
-
Now SAFER for Komrade.
-
Hatch to crew lock closed.
-
FD8 Execute package is available:

Thanks.
I see that on p.5 (item #3), looks like the plan on using the spare liOH cans will negate the chance at a +1 docked day.
Also like the Iron Maiden references...lol
-
1322 UTC: go for hatch open
-
13:24 EVA start time
-
Thanks Chris for the shout out to Real Salt Lake. :) I'm not a soccer fan really but I was happy to see that result.
Here's some sequential video, they're starting to exit the airlock.
-
Some more sequential stills coming down.
-
Best way to follow this on a checklist? Which should I be looking at? I have the 129 mission specific EVA checklist. I guess section 7, timeline for EVA3?
Edit: No worries, found it. EVA checklist for STS-129, page 7-113 currently.

Was just about to post...beat me to it...
-
Randy Bresnik's in the shuttle payload bay retrieving the MISSE payload
-
Nice shot of the payload bay floodlight.
Atlantis is over Australia 7 minutes away from sunrise.
-
Sweet shots of the solar panels at sunrise.
-
Note the size of the astronaut compared to the high pressure gas tank.
They're 40 min ahead of the timeline.
-
Now that's a great helmetcam shot of the ISS truss.
-
Nice shot of one of the ELC's mounted to the truss.
-
Yet another reason why I love helmetcams.
-
Bobby Satcher's freeing the HP gas tank from the ELC. That gas tank weighs over 1200 lbs. It looks like it's as big or bigger than the Mercury spacecraft that took the first US astronauts in orbit so long ago.
-
A shot showing how small the astronauts are against the ELC.
-
Bobby Satcher gets the Olympic gold medal for gas tank lifting.
RMS moving in on the tank. Atlantis over Central America.
-
SSRMS has grappled the HP tank.
Glove check underway.
-
1 hour 15 min into the EVA, 20 min ahead of timeline.
-
EV2 - Robert "Bobby" Satcher is in the all white suit, Helmet Cam # 16, and EV3 - Randy “Comrade” Bresnik is in the suit with broken red stripes around knees, Helmet Cam # 18
-
ISS over the central Atlantic heading for the UK and Russia, at an altitude of 219 miles.
-
They just mentioned a shout out to the "Twitterverse".
-
Nice shot from Bobby's helmetcam of Randy.
-
Very good on-orbit interview of this flight. Sorry if this is a repeat.

Danny Deger
-
The HP tank is being moved by the arm and the astronauts are heading for the airlock
-
The camera just did a nice pan about now. Close to sunset
-
They're 40 min ahead of the timeline.
No suprise there! :)
Great work with the coverage guys.
Note to self, don't cover an Atlas V launch until 8am in the morning and think two hours sleep will be fine for FD coverage ;)
-
Loss of video....they're over southern Russia going into night.
Got to grab some breakfast....will step away for some time.
-
Komrade working on the installation of MISSE 7
-
Ok, one more post before I go to breakfast.....they're at the airlock. And they're in night. Now I'm stepping away....maybe for the rest of the EVA as I've been awake all night working.
-
Komrade is mating the connectors.
-
While Komrade is working on MISSE 7 Bobby is preparing the A/L for HPGT
-
Komrade is removing the Pins and is almost ready to open the first box
-
Bobby is working on removing MMOD shields to make place for HPGT
-
Komrade has opened both "boxes" and will take some pictures before he will help Bobby out at the A/L
-
Komrade is still working on the photography of deployed MISSE 7. He thinks his helmet light will be sufficient since they are in a night pass.
-
Bobby working on MMOD shields.
-
Boddy budleing the shields together.
-
Unusually quiet on the comm today.
-
Komrade is translating down to the A/L
-
If it haven't been sad before so is todays EVA planned to be 4 hours and 45 minutes long.
-
Komrade moving down the truss
-
Bobby has ingressed the APFR he set up earlier.
-
They are both getting ready for the hand-off of the HPGT from SSRMS.
-
We can see the WETA antenna that will have a tight clerance to the new HPGT in the top of the picture.
-
LOS at an inopportune time for us... but sounds like it is going well.
-
Clearing Comrade's head now.... (always a nice thought)
-
Left 1/2 and down 8 inches
-
5 degrees yaw right
-
both handles in ready position. One inch forward
-
Very impressive to listen to them GCA the arm in increments as small as one inch. Start motion, stop motion with no pause in between.
-
AOS. Sorry I can't post pics.
-
Ungrappling now.
-
I can only do a few here and there
-
Arm ungrappled from tank
-
The arm has backed away.
-
Soft dock complete. Both tank handles locked.
-
-
-
-
All going well. Wire ties to handles to keep them from moving.
Have to step away. Not able to post further at this time.
-
-
doing a wire tie here
-
Passing over Central America at this time
-
putting on thermal cover (sorry no sound on my end... assuming things from the pictures)
-
yep that was the cover over the Grapple fixture
-
arm in motion
-
Over Bahamas now
-
-
Sun shining over the Arm... as always :)
-
Comrade hooking up Quick Disconnect connectors on O2 tank
-
working on connections...
-
still about 20 min ahead of timeline
-
-
MCC "Go to open Isolation valve"
-
Hope this isn't too much...
-
Houston has started Gas tank Leak check
-
Hope this isn't too much...
Images? Oh heck no ;)
Doing a splendid job. :)
-
they are handling the MMOD shields removed earlier... plan is to take these inside
-
Now 30 minutes ahead
-
-
-
-
-
looks like they are stowing the shields..

-
Sunset over Turkey

Stowing the MMOD shields on ESP-2
Analyst

Wonder what these MMOD shields are good for now. Can they be used as spares or are they all different (I assume the latter)? May they will jet them on a future EVA.

MCC Leak check on the O2 tank was successful

We're out of Ku at the moment.
Glove check ahead of translation for Airlock Gas Tank 1.

Analyst
Why not bring them back to Earth and have labs study how they have withstood the rigors of space? :-\
-
Probably not easy to securely transport, and we already have plenty of materials that come back to ground after sitting outside the ISS to study?
-
Opening isolation valves on the tank.
-
3hrs 30 mins into EVA-3.
-
EVA'ers looking for a burger joint or place to get some tortilla chips... :)
edit: they are approaching Australia.... anybody there do quick lunch deliveries?
-
Just getting sequential stills at the moment...
-
-
3 1/2 hours in
-
Bobby heading over to release torque on a stuck bolt on an Ammonia tank, on the Starboard side of the Truss structure.
(plan is to use the "cheater bar" for more leverage this time.)
-
Bobby heading out with his cheetar bar to work on the tank bolt.
Randy heading to fluid jumper installation work.
-
-
Bobby warned there maybe MMOD strikes in the tool box and handrail location he is translating to.
-
-
-
Tool box:
-
Atlantis, just hanging ;)
-
-
good... he is getting some nice pictures here...
-
-
-
-
Hi DEXTRE
-
Oh yea... good view time...
-
Installing a connector sleeve.
-
-
Tricky work with the installation. This is where an overglove would be problematic.
-
bit of a rats nest
-
-
-
-
it looked like I just saw a wire tie float away
(from Bobby)
-
-
Did we get verbal confirmation of the wire tie (not that it'll be a problem I'd guess).
-
it looked like I just saw a wire tie float away
(from Bobby)
you did... you can see it here
-
No comment on audio I heard
edit ...yep see above pics
-
-
Great screenshots again Roger! Excellent capture of the wire tie making a bid for freedom.
Ha, wrong country ;)
-
Heading over Houston.
-
Sorry Chris... thats it for me for a bit... must run errands... Tag your it... :)
-
For those who read this later...
MCC asked Bobby for an inventory of his wire ties, as they thought they saw one float away. His inventory accounted for the wire ties he should have. ...so it was a UWTFO .... Unidentified Wire Tie Flying Object.
-
Good work Roger.
Asking to check a SAFER "door" on Bobby's EMU?
-
It's on Randy's EMU. Bobby's going to go over and secure the SAFER door that's slightly open.
-
"Good teamwork out there."
-
"Yay, I think I've solved the problem"
"Sweet!"
-
Bobby to head to the S1/S3 Jumper via the airlock to drop off the bag.
-
4hrs 30 mins into EVA-3. They aren't sure what it was that liberated yet.
-
Randy working on the P1/P3 side with the jumper cables.
-
Good tool inventory, so nothing missing from that.
-
Are these jumpers the last get-ahead task they have trained for are there some get-ahead tasks they will skip?
-
Great helmetcam views of a transition. Flying along the truss. Requires spiderman music in the background.
-
A label's just liberated. No views, being reported.
-
UMA ? label liberated
edit... perhaps Universal Mating Adapter??? Label
-
Are these jumpers the last get-ahead task they have trained for are there some get-ahead tasks they will skip?
After this they will have completed all get aheads in the EVA checklist with the possible exception of some photography tasks that they may have done on EVA2 and an APFR2 relocation. I am not sure if they have anything else up their sleeves though.
-
Bobby working the cables.
-
Both EVAers are working on the S1/S3 Jumpers now.
-
A bit ratty, but you can see the cables.
-
Coming up on five hours of the EVA, planned for six, but 30 mins ahead.
-
...After the delay for the drinking bottle valve, I think they may have shortened the planned EVA length... I seem to remember they said 5 hours but not sure
-
Checking the Quick Disconnects on the jumpers.
-
The plan at the start of the day was 5 hours 45 minutes but they talked about 4 hours and 45 minutes after the valve. That has obviously changed again.
-
Can now replace the S1 Nadir shroud.
-
APFR 3 has already been relocated, so that's how far ahead they are! That was suggested as the final part of the EVA before being corrected.
-
EVA'ers looking for an excuse to stay outside for a while :)
-
Bobby heading back to the airlock.
"There's nothing more for us to do on the Station?"
"You guys have done everything."
"That's it for tasks on this mission. Fantastic work. Can take some more images if you like."
-
Sounds like they get one more sunrise "outside"
-
Bobby from Atlantis PLB cams.
-
It's funny how slowely they are moving now they are at the end of the EVA. Guess they are enjoying it out there.
-
I expect they are having some "This is the last time I will do this" thoughts.
-
Now being told to wrap it up. Took some photos over the last few mins.
-
Randy still taking pics, this time of Atlantis.
-
Ha! "Good work guys, we've got a present for you when you get back in..................to work on transfers."
-
Randy's spotted New Zealand. Directly over Christchurch.
"Beautiful country down there."
-
Back at Quest.
-
Ha! "Good work guys, we've got a present for you when you get back in..................to work on transfers."
Ha, I bet they let out an internal sigh... ;)
-
Anyone ever watch the horror movie - "the Ring" ? ;)
-
EVA ending. Great work. Heading out for a moment, so anyone please chip in if required.
-
Given okay to close and lock the hatch.
-
Hatch closed and locked.
Randy thanking NASA and the hospital for letting him see his new little girl for the first time yesterday.
-
-
Comms to hardline.
-
Total EVA time 5 hours and 42 minutes
-
Anyone ever watch the horror movie - "the Ring" ? ;)
Indeed, had same thought when I saw it by first time :)
Great EVA, great astronauts and great job of them ;)

Great job and congratulations to the STS-129 crew!
They did outstanding work, they are all true pro's! :)

Other helmet off... .and either beating the hell out of him or helping him out of his suit... not sure which.. ;)
I'm sure he was standing on the lower portion of the suit while holding onto the arms which helps pop out the astronaut from the torso section. But it does look very funny. ;D

I did. It's one of those horror films that's actually good. :)

Mission Status Briefing coming up at 2:30 CT / 3:30 ET.
-
-
Back for the MSB :)
-
-
Thanks for the great coverage. Very much appreciated.
-
pictures only... no sound ... someone will have to transcribe anything interesting...
-
Brian -
These pressers are a lot of fun when the mission is going as well as it is.
Completed all objectives.
No big deal with the late start for the EVA. We were originally planning a 5:45 duration EVA. Down to 5:30, but the crew still got ahead and performed flawlessly.
Rest of the activities of transfer. 73 percent at the next tag up is expected.
DA on the UPA packed and soon to head to the middeck.
FD9 last docked day - lots of transfers and change of command cemermonies. Hatches will be closed for FD10 undocking.
Mission proceeding extreemly well. No need for another docked day.
-
-
Sarah -
Bobby had a drink valve manifuction. The end came off and was floating around in his helmet.
Would be a 10 minute clock at 14.7 psi, so depressed down and popped off his helmet to put the valve back on.
The EVAs went great, again. Reviews the tasks.
-
-
Who will ask them about the UFO
-
There actually was a UFO that MCC saw and notified the spacewalkers about. They spent some time discussing it, trying to decide if it was a... wire tie... or a Retractable Equipment Tether
(It WAS an Unidentified Flying Object)
-
Who will ask them about the UFO
20 bucks on Marcia...lol (jk)
-
Bill - on change of command being moved up for Nicole's benefit:
Brian: It's usually right before the Soyuz undocking. Don't think we've done it before, but Frank suggested it and we said sure.
Gina - troubleshooting the water valve.
Sarah: We had this on the console, so the crew describes the problem, and we have a proceedure to depress to 10.2 in case this happens. Work out what needs to be taken off the suit and work it that way.
Robert - asking about how these EVAs went so well.
Sarah: The biggest thing was next to zero problems. Wouldn't say we were lucky. Couple of things we saw pre-flight and thought if they had found that during the EVA it would be a big deal, but saw it before the flight (handrail clearance as an example). Some of the tasks have been done before (MISSE) and made sure we did all the proper fit checks - by watching the actual ground work on the ELCs.
-
Who will ask them about the UFO
20 bucks on Marcia...lol (jk)
Well.... it WASN'T Marcia (yet). Maybe she didn't catch it. :-\
-
Marcia - what's the status of the WPA?
Brian: That story has changed for the better. We're not running the WPA as we don't need it. We've worked out how to run it in a degraded mode - we've found a good way to run it. We're full and plenty of water, so stopped running. That's no longer an issue. Did a terrific job with trial and error.
It's simply converting condesation now.
Marcia - who will be replacing Jeff Williams.
Brian: Oleg Kotov - Rob N took over that.
James D on the alarm status.
Brian - hasn't happened again. After the second incident the only mitigation was taken on the Russian side, powering off the hardware panel responsibile on MRM-2. No one is 100 percent confident this is where the signals are originating from. Also looked at software reconfigs. Wondering if there's something they can do in the US section - but that wasn't the right way to go. Don't want to mask systems due to requirement for a real emergency.
Investigation is continuing.
-
James went into a baby question.
MSB over.
