Great presentation, great article, cool mission :)

What's a "passive FRAM"?
Also, why "MRM1's MLM"...
I would have thought that might read instead "the RS's future MLM".
I didn't think the MRM1 had anything to do with MLM, other than being a transport pallet for the MLM's external accessories (as this article highlights).

What's a "passive FRAM"?
Quotes from http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/txs/initiatives/harmon%20indictment.pdf
Space Shuttles carried cargo to the ISS. The cargo was sometimes secured to the shuttle by a device called a Flight Releasable Attachment Mechanism ("FRAM").
FRAMs functioned as follows:
a. The cargo was attached to an adaptor plate;
b. The adaptor plate was attached to a removable part of the FRAM called the "Active FRAM";
c. The Active FRAM was attached to a stationary part of the FRAM called the "Passive FRAM";
d. The Passive FRAM was attached to a beam on the sidewall of the Space Shuttle payload bay.
When the Space Shuttle docked at the ISS in orbit, an astronaut would do a space walk into the payload bay and use tools to separate the Active FRAM from the Passive FRAM. The astronaut would hand carry the Active FRAM and its cargo a short distance through space and attach it to a spot on the outside of the ISS. The Passive FRAM would remain attached to the Space Shuttle payload bay.

In the first photo, there is a large module behind the MRM-1, I believe that this is the electronic test article for Zvezda.

How do they provide kinetic energy to the MRM1 in order to dock it with Zarya ?

There is a Progress propulsion module attached to the module that will guide it during rendezvous and docking.

You have mixed up with MRM-2.

So I do! Oops. Well, for MRM-1, aren't they just moving it into place with the SSRMS?

Will EVA's originate from russian airlock for MRM?
-
Will EVA's originate from russian airlock for MRM?
only schedules EVA's with shuttle astronauts are performed out of the regular airlock.
EVAs would only be out of the Russian airlock if they are tasked to Russian cosmonauts, usually when shuttle isn't docked, and are considered "staged EVAs".
Russian cosmonauts in Russian spacesuits. That is the way of things. Just like Russian water into the Russian segment.
-
Ok. I just remember that hearing that decision on airlock always is about where the EVA focuses and that shuttle EVA's are always U.S. segments was why U.S. airlock is always used

Interesting, since Karen Nyberg was replaced by Mike Good at some stage, wonder who were the original spacewalkers? Reisman and Nyberg?

Bowen (STS-126) and Sellers (STS-112 and STS-121) are also veteran spacewalkers so I'm sure it would have been one of them.

Hi Folks,
I know it's a way in advance, but does anyone have any information on what the overall launch window is for this flight?
I know the launch is currently NET 14th May, but does anyone know how long they have to get her off, whether there are any potential range conflicts, etc, etc...
Thanks
-

The MRM airlock will never be used for EVAs, as it is only a payloads airlock, like the one in the JPM.

May 14 - June 12... a solar beta angle cutout.
Way too early to tell about range conflicts with other rockets on the Eastern Range. We have to get closer and see how the EELV schedule plays out.
-
Thanks Chris - a friend is in the early stages of planning a trip from the UK, so any info is useful for him.
-
Were there ever any plans to include a Russian cosmonaut on the STS 132 crew, being that a major Russian payload was on the manifest?
Thanks.

I don't believe so. It was not part of the original agreement (which involved the SPP rather than the MRM).

With STS-131 likely slipping to April. STS-132 is likely slipping to June.
All not yet confirmed, but that's the feeling on memos (L2).
-
Any idea of launch time during June ?. I am wondering whether would it be a night time launch !

The first part of the June window would not be a night launch, no. June 1 would put launch around 8a.m.-ish.

Who are the space walking astronauts of this mission?
Garrett Reisman & Mike Good.
New information has come to light regarding STS-132 EVA crewmembers.
Per these recent photos of the crew during training, we can see Garrett Reisman & Steve Bowen practising in the NBL, while Mike Good "sits it out" in the simulation control area.

This could mean one of two things:
1) Steve Bowen has replaced Mike Good as an EVA crewmember.
or
2) Mike Good was sitting out on this particular NBL run, in order to allow Bowen to train as a backup EVA crewmember.
Anyone know anything about this?

There are some new images of Steve Bowen getting prepared for spacewalking training sessions at NASA Human Space Flight web site. See for ex. http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/shuttle/sts-132/html/jsc2010e019601.html

I have to say, this one is SERIOUSLY nice! :D
A great, symbolic patch for Atlantis's final flight.
-
Just curious, are there going to be any plans for any Russians riding any shuttles to the station before they retire?
-
The crews for all remaining shuttle missions (other than STS-335) have been announced. No Russians are among those crew.
IANAE, but I imagine the crew for 335 will be a recently flown flight deck crew (possibly 134's or 132's).

Page 1 of the STS-132 image gallery shows portraits of Mike Good, Garrett Reisman and Steve Bowen wearing EMUs.
Therefore, I think it’s safe to assume that all 3 will be EVA crewmembers for STS-132.
www.spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/shuttle/sts-132/ndxpage1.html
-
Yes, Mike Good is shown with the red and white hashed stripes on his EMU legs, so presumably he will be EV3. Bowen has an all-white suit (EV2) and presumably Reisman has red stripes (EV1).
I suppose it's not totally surprising, as similar procedure was followed on STS-129 (Foreman, Bresnik, Satcher), STS-128 (Olivas, Fuglesang, Stott) and STS-119 (Swanson, Acaba, Arnold).
One question, though: since Good replaced Nyberg, does this imply that Nyberg might originally have been scheduled for an EVA? or had EVA training not really begun when she stepped down from the crew?
