Title: Soyuz Ascent Nav
Post by: Danny Dot on 05/03/2008 09:23 pm
Does anyone have knowledge of Soyuz ascent navigation.  I know on entry there is a single attitude gyro, a couple of sets of rate gyros, and body fixed accelerometers.  My key question is this, "Does it have an INS/IMU?"

Certainly Soyuz-U and Soyuz-FG have nothing like you mention. They do have a lot of gears in their ascent nav system, though.

Most Russian designs use inertial guidance, with corrections supplied by stations along the ground track.
