Crew wakeup was almost an hour ago. Sorry I missed the wake up music and opening words...
jmjawors - 19/2/2008 12:40 AMWake-up music was Monty Pyton's ('Spamalot' version of) "Always Look at the Bright Side of Life" for Steve Frick by his wife.

The investigations that we had overnight indicate that a hybrid driver may have failed resulting in the loss of the heater power to the aft vernier thrusters. So the remainder of the mission will be conducted loss of verns. The propellant margin support all the activities and all planned deorbit opportunities through end of mission plus two. Now, there is a potential to perform some unplanned maneuvers and attitude hold in an effort to maintain the aft vernier jets above their non-operating limits.Frick replied:
Okay Shannon, thanks a lot for those words. We kind of figured we would be down verns from now on but it is good to hear we don't have any power or prop concerns. I'm glad we have enough prop to fly those attitudes to keep the jets from being a turnaround concern.

Weather looking very good for the first opportunity at KSC.

Are the close in ground tracks available somewhere? The nasa/shuttle page doesn't show them yet. Preferred runway??

Ground tracks are already there: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/sts122/news/landing.html

Reading the execute package re-rentry procedures lists MS1 (Melvin) and MS3 (Schlegel) as not taking any salt tablets. I thought they were almost mandatory for replacing fluids?
Gary - 19/2/2008 9:39 AMJust above the fluid loading chart, is the following (emphasis mine):

Consume 8 ounces of water or artificially sweetened (A/S) drink with two salt tablets, or 8 ounces of Chicken Consommé every 15 minutes.Schlegel chose the consummé; as for Melvin, I believe the Orange Ade has the sufficient sodium content similar in fashion to the consommé.

"I have a question about yesterday's MM briefing when it was said that there was not enough oxygen left on Atlantis to support a Friday landing. Only 8 hours available after Thursday. Does this mean that too much oxygen was transferred to ISS so that Atlantis cannot support 2 weather waive off days? Seems against flight rules to me. Was the Friday no-landing decision done deliberately or have they unwittingly transferred too much oxygen?"
Nothing unwitting was done. The plan was 13+2. Any oxygen above that was to be transferred to ISS. We got about 90 lbs. Might have been able to squeak out a few more but didn't have the time. So we have the 13+2 required and then some, not that it helps much. We will land by Thursday.

The execute package for today refers to EOM+2 being available for a systems waive off day. From what we were told about cryo margin, in terms of oxygen, there is not enough for the mission to last until EOM+2. The exact words were that a Friday landing was not possible. Which is the correct info?

Not quite... Sleep time isn't until 4:45pm EST, you must have misinterpreted something.

Who told you that and what background info came with it?
ETEE - 19/2/2008 5:31 PM
It was said that there was only 8 hours of O2 available past Thursday so a Friday landing would not be possible. Hopefully someone else will have remembered this.
