VKD-57 has been recently reprogrammed for a week later than initially planned in order to "perform a more detailed study of its tasks", according to statements from Roscosmos. It will now take place May 3rd instead of today as previously expected.


The main objective for this EVA is the completion of the relocations of add-on items located on Rassvet since its 2013 launch, following in the footsteps of the Nauka RTOd radiator relocation last week, by transferring the Science Airlock ShK from MIM-1's side (a bit zenith from the former stowage location for the radiator) to MLM's front docking port at its nadir end through the use of ERA. Full activation of the airlock is not expected until later in the spring/summer timeframe (tentatively June) during VKD-59, following operational loading of the radiator in the intervening VKD-58.

That's a pointless question. The adapter is needed because in itself ERA doesn't have the reach to grab the airlock. If the adapter wasn't needed, the Russians wouldn't have bothered to bring it up onboard MLM in the first place.

Without the adapter, the only way to get the airlock from MRM to MLM is by hand, tugged by the cosmonauts via extending a regular STRELA boom between MRM and MLM.

Not sure why the aggressive antagonism is warranted. The Strela solution you mention was thoroughly and well-explained in the linked thread, at the time of the issues with ERA commissioning. However, the user that introduced the extension boom topic mentioned he was unsure whether it was still the main solution or it might have been canceled in favor of another approach, to which no conclusive answer was given, prompting my question today.

There is also another contingency scenario involving SSRMS+SPDM by the way, so Strela and tugging isn't the *only* way, were ERA to not be available.

First rule about Russians: once they have a plan, they almost never change it:
The plan for getting ERA to the ISS hasn't changed since 2012.
The plan how to commission ERA hasn't changed since 2012 (the commissioning of ERA in 2022 followed the commissioning plan from 2012 to the letter).
The plan to use ERA to transfer the radiator from MRM to MLM hasn't changed since 2012. Just a few days ago that plan was executed per that 11 years old plan.
The plan to use ERA to transfer the airlock from MRM to MLM hasn't changed since 2012.
The plan to involve an extension piece for this hasn't changed since 2012. Said extension piece has been in existence since 2010.
The STRELA plan is the backup in case ERA, for whatever reason, would not be available.
The SSRMS plan is the backup of the backup.

NASA will provide live coverage as two Roscosmos cosmonauts conduct two spacewalks in May outside the International Space Station to relocate hardware from the Rassvet module to the new Nauka multipurpose laboratory module.

During the spacewalks, Expedition 69 cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin will venture outside the Poisk airlock Wednesday, May 3 and Friday, May 12, to help in transfer and install of an experiment airlock to Nauka and deploy a radiator to provide module cooling. The airlock and the radiator attached to Rassvet were launched on the space shuttle Atlantis STS-132 mission in May 2010. The radiator and the airlock will be robotically transferred by ESA’s (European Space Agency) robotic arm on Nauka with those movements operated by cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev inside the orbital complex.

3:30 p.m. - NASA TV coverage begins for a spacewalk to move an experiment airlock from Rassvet to Nauka.

Friday, May 12

11:30 a.m. - NASA TV coverage begins for a spacewalk to deploy a radiator on Nauka and connect mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic lines.

The spacewalks will be the fifth and sixth for Prokopyev, who will wear the Orlan spacesuit with the red stripes for all of the spacewalks and the third and fourth for Petelin, who will wear the spacesuit with the blue stripes.

Nauka

The port on Nauka for the airlock is ASA-G (Docking Port Active - Hybrid). The ports are not androgynous.

Nauka:

ASA-G - Active with Probe
APAS collar, 4 petals, 12 latches

Airlock:

ASP-G - Passive with Drogue and Docking target
APAS collar, 4 petals, 12 slots for latches

Of course the EVA suits can work beyond warranty, but there are issues already - like the battery power fluctuation Oleg Artemiev faced. Before the new spacesuits arrive, the cosmonauts will have to use  Orlan-MKS No 4 and 5, and probably the old Orlan-MK suits stored on the ISS.

Audio of EVA preps is on the ISS Youtube channel .  Curious why the Russians have shifted the start of recent EVAs to what is normally the start of the crew sleep period.   Edit-translations have started.
