After ERA was successfully troubleshot and able to execute its base handoff, it is now ready to proceed with its next stage of activation, in a few short days' time. This will also mark Samantha Cristoforetti's first spacewalk, and such a baptism with fire it will be!

Great EVA overview by Raffaele:

After this, ERA should be able to start assisting in operational functions, starting with the long overdue relocation of Nauka's airlock from Poisk, during VKD-55.

What the actual...

https://mobile.twitter.com/katlinegrey/status/1546924680522653700

Translation of Rogozin's rant: "What kind of Mars can we talk about with Europeans, what kind of Venus can we talk about with Americans, if their governments are trying to kill as many Russians and Ukrainians as possible, supplying the junta in Kyiv with deadly weapons?  Ashbacher announced the termination of cooperation with Roskosmos on exoMars.  But did this head of the European Space Agency think how many thousands of scientists and engineers in Europe and Russia he crossed out with his decision?  Is he ready to answer for the sabotage of a joint Martian mission?  No , not in front of irresponsible bureaucrats like him in the European Commission .  Ready to answer to humanity?  Roskosmos will make every effort to return our landing Martian module from Italy.  " Cossack " will return to his native village .  And I , in turn , give a command to our crew on the ISS to stop working with the European manipulator ERA . Let Aschbacher himself and his boss Borrell fly into space and do at least something useful in their lives"

If this goes through, MCC-M should just revolt and ignore this individual. Complying is just slightly prolonguing an inevitable closing up shop.

well who couldn't have seen this coming. Like Mile or KM away. Nauka shouldn't never have launched. Q/A and general lack of skilled personal and political shenanigans' all led to this. They secretly know they missed up and won't be able get it working either way. So they just using this excuse to stop messing with it. Good riddance IMHO, I am sorry ESA, EU and its member states have wasted time and resources and money on this co-op.

That's... not at all the situation. Nauka is working well, as is ERA and the professionals on Station and MCCs around the world. Try again.

This response from Rogozin is just sad. It's a response you could expect from a 12year old, not from the head of Roscosmos. Possibly this tells something about Russia, I don't know.

Main financial contributor to ERA was the Netherlands government. I know that they stopped financing the technical support for ERA because they didn't expect it would launch. Considering MLM was over a decade a year away from launching. They just didn't expect MLM would still launch, but it did anyway.
ERA was planned to operate on the Russian side of the ISS. Installing the MLM equipment airlock, installing the MLM radiator and to place and remove external payloads afterwards. Thus eliminates the requirement of VKD's for external experiments. On the USA side of the ISS Candarm-2 and JEM-RMS are used to install and remove payloads. JEM-Airlock and Bishop Airlock can be used to move experiments from inside to outside the ISS and vice versa. So not using ERA only makes the Russian side of the ISS less usable, and it's mostly used by Russia. It's a empty tread that only harms Russia itself.

Let's get back to discussing the VKD-54 where ERA will be checked out and put into operation.
It's only Russia that gets less science done on the ISS if they don't take ERA into operation.
I'll leave it with this for now.

It's pure propaganda.
Rogosin is a teathless old dog who bites his own tail and he knows it.
Nobody in the NASA/ESA gives a sh... for his yapping any more.

Yeah, and from rumors he might have gone just a step too far (or gotten what he always wanted, we'll see)

In any case there are reports that techical offices are continuing normal preparation work for VKD-54 at this time. For sure the fantastic Samantha, who probably loves Russia more than the fascist manboy Rogozin, will keep all options open to the best of her abilities.

If the ERA is compatible with US segment grapple fixtures, move the arm there where it can perform cooperative operations with Canadarm 2.   :)
Launches attended:  Apollo 11, ASTP (@KSC, not Baikonur!), STS-41G, STS-125, EFT-1, Starlink G4-24, Artemis 1
Notable Spacecraft Observed:  Echo 1, Skylab/S-II, Salyuts 6&7, Mir Core/Complete, HST, ISS Zarya/Present, Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, Dragon Demo-2, Starlink G4-14 (8 hrs. post-launch), Tiangong

SSRMS with SPDM use was dropped and prohibited following the Serbia/Kosovo, Georgian and Crimea "Special military operations".
Strela adapters already exist as Strela is the sole backup for all Nauka EVA's. Since they are manually operated they are slower to operate in certain cases.

This is all political as Rogozin flails like a kicking and screaming tantrum throwing child as the ordered. government shuffle sends rolling heads that met the blade out their respective doors.

So much for Rogozin's nth antic:

https://twitter.com/AschbacherJosef/status/1542916610595475459

Now if they could only just get the Russo-European ExoMars back on track for 2026 or whenever, instead of having the scientific collaborations be the first (worthless) ammunition to throw under the tanks, and use the momentum to follow up on starting to stop the aggressions and finding ways to reach peace accords...

The Roscosmos cosmonaut will use the Orlan-MKS No. 5 spacesuit with red stripes along the spacesuit , the ESA cosmonaut will use the Orlan-MKS No. 4 spacesuit with blue stripes. (From the VKD page)

VKD 54 spacewalk schedule

The same schedule posted by Chinakpradhan, adapted to UTC time.

Translated with DeepL

And congratulations to Nauka on the first anniversary of her launch!

Edited to add that this is the first not russian cosmonaut using an Orlan spacesuit since Mike Barrat on June 2009 during ISS Exp.-20
