Six hours of spacewalk training for installing the new solar panels on the ISS took place in the pool at NASA's Johnson Space Center. We also conducted diving training for this work in July, and we were able to complete the training smoothly as the work procedures were being established.

Pre-flight press conference: Anna Kikina spoke about preparations for the flight on the Crew Dragon spacecraft and the ISS-68 expedition

08/26/2022 16:51

In July this year, Roscosmos State Corporation and NASA signed a cross-flight agreement under which US astronauts will fly on Russian Soyuz spacecraft and Russian cosmonauts on US Crew Dragon spacecraft.

Since May 2021, cosmonaut Anna Kikina has been training as part of the ISS-67 backup crew, after which, together with cosmonauts Sergei Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin, she became part of the ISS-68 prime crew. In accordance with the cross-flight agreement, Anna Kikina was assigned as a Crew-5 mission specialist to fly to the International Space Station on the Crew Dragon spacecraft. The launch is scheduled for October 3, 2022.

Today, August 26, an online press conference was held at the Cosmonaut Training Center dedicated to the launch of the program of cross-flights of Russian cosmonauts and American astronauts to the ISS. It was attended by Roscosmos test cosmonaut Anna Kikina, Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut of the Russian Federation, deputy head of the Cosmonaut Training Center - cosmonaut commander Oleg Kononenko, who is undergoing training as part of the ISS-68 backup crew, and Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Russia, USSR pilot-cosmonaut, executive director for manned space programs of the Roscosmos State Corporation Sergey Krikalev.

Participants answered questions received in advance from media representatives and social media users.

Journalists drew attention to the fact that Russian cosmonauts had not flown on foreign ships for about 20 years, in response to this Sergey Krikalev spoke about the cross-flight program.

“This project was created to increase resistance to possible emergency situations,” answered Sergey Konstantinovich . “The agreement has now been signed for the first three flights, but if the result is positive, we will continue the program.”

Anna Kikina, when asked about the relationship with the American crew, of which she will become a part of the upcoming flight, answered that they are comfortable, high-quality and efficient.

“I am satisfied with the learning process both in the USA and in Russia. I see an interest among all specialists in the fact that manned astronautics lives on, and we continue to fly, ”said Anna .
Oleg Kononenko, in response to a question about the level of training of Anna Kikina, noted her complete readiness to work on the Russian segment of the International Space Station, and also spoke about the qualities of a modern cosmonaut.

“A modern cosmonaut must be willing and able to learn, be very sociable, and also work in a different social group and environment. If a person is determined to constantly improve his knowledge, he has a direct road to astronauts, ”summed up Oleg Dmitrievich .

Anna Kikina will be the first woman in the last eight years to work on the International Space Station as part of the Russian part of the ISS-68 crew. At a press conference, Anna turned to girls who wanted to join the cosmonaut corps:

“Astronaut is a very interesting profession, it is available. It is important to meet high professional requirements, but everything is real. If you feel the strength in yourself, then the roads are open, ”said Anna Kikina.

The videoconference was held online together with TASS, Roscosmos State Corporation and the Cosmonaut Training Center.

Sorry for the off-topic comment, but reading Anna Kikina's words, it always interests me how cosmonauts reply to questions with very, very non-specific answers about their training, preparation and mission goals, whilst USOS astronauts tend to provide much more nuts-and-bolts detail.

I always found that kinda funny. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that?

Cristoforetti will assume command of Exp 68a when Artemyev departs next month.
She'll then pass command on to Prokopyev for Exp 68b when Crew-4 leaves in early to mid October.
Prokopyev will command Exp 68b through his own return to Earth in early 2023.
Bowen will command Exp 69a.
Kononenko will command Exp 69b.
I’m confused so was cristoferreti’s flight delayed a month cuz they needed someone to command the ISS & I’m surprised it’s not wakata that’s commanding expedition 68B, Bowen commanding 69A That confuses me I thought if you were a Space X Crew Dragon Commander you couldn’t command the station.

I'm pretty sure it's just coincidence that none yet have.

Cosmonaut Prokopiev spoke about the plans for the next expedition to the ISS.

Prokopiev: Russian crew members of the next mission to the ISS will go into space up to five times.

10:15 04.09.2022

MOSCOW, September 4 - RIA Novosti. Russian crew members on the next mission to the International Space Station could conduct up to five spacewalks, cosmonaut Sergei Prokopyev said .

"Up to five spacewalks are planned for the expedition," he said in an interview with Russian Space magazine.

He clarified that the cosmonauts will have to install a special SKKO platform (a means of securing large-sized objects) on the Nauka module, after which it will be possible to consider that the deployment of the module is completed.

In addition, according to Prokopyev, the only girl in the Russian cosmonaut corps, Anna Kikina , will at that time be the operator of the ERA manipulator, the control panel of which is located inside the station.

Earlier, Prokopyev said that the first spacewalk of his crew is scheduled for November 17. In addition, it was reported that Kikina, who will fly to the station on the American ship Crew Dragon , will assist her colleagues on the ship during their work outside the station.

Prokopiev will go to the ISS on the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft on September 21. Russian cosmonaut Dmitry Petelin and American astronaut Francisco Rubio will fly with him. The Crew Dragon flight, which will take Kikina to the ISS alongside NASA astronauts Nicole Mann and Josh Kassada and Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata , is scheduled for October 3rd.

The crews of the 68th long-term expedition to the ISS arrived at Baikonur

09/05/202217:10

On Monday, September 5, 2022, after the farewell ceremony in Star City, the main and backup crews of the 68th long-term expedition to the International Space Station took off on two planes from the Chkalovsky airfield near Moscow and a few hours later landed at the Krainiy airfield of the city of Baikonur.

The cosmonauts and astronauts were met by members of the technical management, as well as schoolchildren and representatives of the Baikonur administration.

Crews and employees providing pre-launch training of the Cosmonaut Training Center named after Yu.A. Gagarina (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) are accommodated in the training center, where they will complete an intense training program over the next two weeks.

On Tuesday, September 6, 2022, the main crew, which includes Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Prokopiev and Dmitry Petelin and NASA astronaut Frank Rubio, as well as their backups  ,  Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub, and NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara, will take part in the solemn ceremony of raising the flags of the countries participating in the launch of the Soyuz MS-22 transport manned spacecraft.

I believe Cristoforetti was always intended to command part of Exp 68 when it was baselined as a six-month increment. It was shortened earlier this year to four months, which would have placed it entirely within Exp 67 under Artemyev's command, then lengthened again in response to the Crew-5 delay until after Exp 67 departure. So she gets to command for a short time after all.

Wakata will not command during Exp 68. It's Prokopyev, then Bowen. I don't think it's always a question of experience: after all, on Exp 47 Kopra (with no long-duration experience) commanded over Malenchenko, who was on his fifth long-duration flight. I think it has more to do with cycling command between the partners.

As for Dragon astronauts commanding increments, NASA's Rob Navias told me a couple of years ago that no Dragon crew members would be ISS CDR for the first few Dragon missions. I imagine that has changed now.

Tim Kopra did have his one-month-ish flight (up on STS-127 and down on STS-128), but I do think you're right.

The Dragon policy never seems to have been the case, unless I'm missing something: Shannon Walker (Crew-1), Aki Hoshide (Crew-2), and Tom Marshburn (Crew-3) all served as ISS CDRs.

New TASS special correspondent aboard ISS briefed about journalistic work.

Dmitry Petelin said that his first reports will be coming after Artemyev passes him the baton.

20 SEP, 13:04

BAIKONUR /Kazakhstan/, September 20. /TASS/. Russian cosmonaut Dmitry Petelin, who will become the third TASS special correspondent aboard the International Space Station (ISS), said on Tuesday he had already been given instructions about journalistic work.

Petelin told an online news conference hosted by TASS that he also plans to seek advice from his colleague Oleg Artemyev.

"I have already received my first instructions. Being a correspondent is not easy, as there are certain rules. TASS staffers have already given me with their advice. I’m looking forward to receiving some advice from your correspondent, our colleague Oleg Artemyev, who is now aboard the station. I will take over this work from him," Petelin said.

The cosmonaut said that his first reports will be coming after Artemyev passes him the baton.

A Soyuz-2.1a rocket carrying the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft will blast off from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan at 16:54 on September 21. The spacecraft’s crew will comprise Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin and NASA astronaut Francisco Rubio. Their space mission is to last 188 days, until March 28. It will be the first Soyuz flight under the seat swap agreement. The spacecraft will also carry about 120 kilograms of payload.

On November 17, 2021, TASS and Roscosmos signed a memorandum of cooperation, according to which a TASS office was opened on the ISS. Its current chief is cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, who assumed the duty in March. The agency’s first special correspondent was cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin. His flight lasted 12 days.

TASS correspondents aboard the ISS are informing the audience about their life and work in space, make reports about various scientific experiments and tests, and provide photos and videos from the orbital outpost.
