ISS-66 crew commanders passed exams in manual dynamic modes

08/21/2021 10:22

The ISS-66 prime crew commander, Roscosmos cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov, and his backup Oleg Artemyev, passed the exam on manual docking and re-docking of the Soyuz MS transport manned spacecraft on the Don-Soyuz simulator.

During the examination training, the cosmonauts performed four modes, the first of which was re-docking from one docking station of the Russian segment of the International Space Station to another. This is the normal mode, which is always done manually. Crew commanders should be able to re-dock the spacecraft to the nodes of domestic modules that are already part of the ISS or will arrive during their expedition into orbit.

Unlike redocking, docking implies the occurrence of abnormal situations, which, for example, can occur at the moment when the cosmonauts have flown around the station, are opposite the docking station and are already starting to dock. During the exam, it is necessary to recognize an abnormal situation and demonstrate to the commission an algorithm of actions to get out of it. The difficulty is added by the fact that one of the docking modes is performed in the shade. Nevertheless, the ISS-66 crew commanders successfully coped with the assigned tasks.

During the exam, the astronauts demonstrated important skills that must be constantly maintained in order to cope with a possible emergency situation.

“Unfortunately, this happens. At one time, due to a failure of automation when the Soyuz spacecraft docked to the ISS, Yuri Malenchenko had to manually dock it with the station. At that time, he was making his sixth flight as commander of the Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft and, being a very experienced cosmonaut, he saved the crew from serious danger, ”said Oleg Artemyev, commander of the ISS-66 backup crew .

The current examination session is characterized by the fact that crew commanders perform tasks alone, they do not have flight engineers. The space flight participants - the film crew of the Challenge project - are training together with the cosmonauts, but they will start taking exams together in September 2021. Yulia Peresild and Klim Shipenko will join the commander of the ISS-66 prime crew Anton Shkaplerov, and Alena Mordovina and Alexey Dudin will join his backup Oleg Artemyev. These will be comprehensive exam trainings before the crews are sent to Baikonur. The launch of the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft is scheduled for October 2021.

The ISS-66 backup crew performed a typical flight day

08/27/2021 13:37

Space everyday life is somewhat similar to a remote location, you have to live and work in the same room. However, even tiny apartments are more spacious than modules, moreover, they are much simpler than aircraft. In order for the crews to experience the peculiarities of being in a confined space, get used to the environment of a space house, and develop the necessary skills, they need to spend the so-called typical flight day on the simulator of the Russian segment of the International Space Station.

Oleg Artemyev, the commander of the ISS-66 backup crew, Roscosmos cosmonaut, was the first to "populate" the station. An experienced cosmonaut, who made two flights, clearly completed the tasks related to the current activities of Russian crews in orbit, and successfully coped with emergency situations that were simulated by instructors of the Cosmonaut Training Center. In particular, the astronaut had to solve communication problems.

The crew spent the second half of the "working day" on the simulator of the Russian segment already in full force. Oleg Artemiev was joined by actress Alena Mordovina and director of photography Alexei Dudin. Space flight participants are preparing for a short 12-day expedition to the ISS. Now they need to strengthen their knowledge about the structure of the Russian segment of the station and practice the skills of performing household operations. For example, they must be able to reheat food on their own and fill food bags with water.

Taking into account the specifics of the upcoming flight, the CTC instructors tried to make the training as useful as possible for the creative part of the crew. As part of the 66th expedition to the ISS, the feature film "Challenge" will be filmed, which is part of a unique scientific and educational project. This work will have to be done in a short time. Therefore, in addition to the joint preparation of a TV report for the entire crew, additional tasks related to the use of photo and video equipment were included in the training sequence specifically for the flight participants.

In addition, beginners need to know how to find the equipment they need while already at the station. They need to carefully study the structure of the Russian segment of the ISS so as not to waste time on this while in orbit. Alena Mordovina and Alexey Dudin were able to test their knowledge by solving certain problems. Also, during the training, the backup crew coped with the emergency, responding to the signal about the release of ammonia into the station's atmosphere.

Typical flight days on the simulator of the Russian segment of the International Space Station are also provided for the ISS-66 prime crew, which includes Roscosmos cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov, as well as actress Yulia Peresild and production director Klim Shipenko. Then both crews will take part in comprehensive exam training. The launch of the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft with the film crew of the Vyzov project is scheduled for October 2021.

While we are preparing for the flight, I will continue sharing my archive photos. And today we have #Lisbon.

It is one of the oldest in the world and, at least, the most ancient in Western Europe. It was first mentioned in the 3rd century BC.

ISS-66 prime crew preparing for work in orbit

09/03/2021 11:10

Typical flight day - this is the name of the final training session before passing the complex exams, in which the crews of the next expedition to the International Space Station participate. Their task is to spend a working day on the simulator of the Russian segment of the station, performing various tasks. The ISS-66 backup crew (Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, space flight participants Alena Mordovina and Alexey Dudin) have already passed similar tests. It was the turn of the main crew.

Roscosmos cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov was the first to start training. For him, a typical flight day began in the morning. The crew commander performed the tasks following a clear sequence diagram prescribed by the instructors. In addition to the planned maintenance of the station and life support, a number of emergency situations awaited him, which the cosmonaut successfully coped with. In the afternoon, space flight participants Klim Shipenko and Yulia Peresild joined their commander Anton Shkaplerov. During the space flight, they will have to implement a unique scientific and educational project - the first in the world to shoot episodes of a feature film in orbit under the working title "Challenge". The process promises to be very stressful and labor intensive.

According to the director of the film, Klim Shipenko, the “earthly” shooting shift usually lasts 12 hours, the total number of different specialists who are involved in it is 50-70 people. This is impossible in space, the resources are simply incomparable. What dozens of people do, the director and actress will have to do, of course, with the participation of astronauts. ISS-66 crew commander Anton Shkaplerov and ISS-65 flight engineer Oleg Novitsky, currently in orbit, will be involved in the film.

The space expedition of the film crew "Challenge" will be short-lived. The working hours of the crews that will be at the station are scheduled by minute. Therefore, it is very important that the actions of cosmonauts and flight participants are well coordinated and worked out in advance in terrestrial conditions. Typical flight days help filmmakers get used to the environment on the ISS, feel its dimensions, learn how to serve themselves in everyday life and act according to a single algorithm. For Klim Shipenko and Yulia Peresild, they prepared a number of tasks related to photography and video filming, as well as finding and using equipment in different modules. This allows you to even better study the structure of the station and practice shooting in conditions close to real ones. An important part of a typical flight day was the study of equipment used in an emergency on the ISS.

On September 8, 2021, the ISS-66 prime and backup crews will begin complex examination training, after which they will continue their prelaunch training already at Baikonur. The launch of the Soyuz MS-19 manned spacecraft with the film crew of the Challenge project is scheduled for October 5, 2021.

ISS-66 crews started complex examination training

09/08/2021 18:09

Examination complex training (ECT) began today, September 8, 2021 for the crews of ISS-66. This is the final stage of the session, during which the readiness of cosmonauts and space flight participants for the upcoming expedition to the International Space Station is assessed.

The ECTs are divided into two stages: on the day when one crew demonstrates their skills in controlling the spacecraft, the other performs tasks on the simulator of the Russian segment of the International Space Station. At the second stage, the crews are swapped.

The ISS-66 backup crew was the first to start tests on the Soyuz transport manned spacecraft simulator. The crew is commanded by Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev. Together with him, the cameraman Alexei Dudin and the actress Alena Mordovina pass the exam. They are preparing for an expedition into orbit as backup participants in a space flight.

First, the crew draws a ticket with a list of emergency situations to be overcome during training. For those taking an exam in a spacecraft simulator, this could be, for example, a communication failure or even a fire aboard the ship. That is, any emergency that is possible during the launch of a spacecraft into orbit, during its docking with the ISS, or during its descent to Earth. The content of the exam ticket is known only to instructors who will simulate contingencies for the crew. Astronauts and flight participants are not warned in advance about the problems that they have to fix.

Oleg Artemyev noted the high readiness of his charges for the flight to the ISS and stressed that for the successful passing of the exam, first of all, attentiveness and patience are needed. Alena Mordovina and Aleksey Dudin talked about how they had been repeating the material they had covered the day before, consolidating their knowledge, and thanked the crew commander for their support, emphasizing his friendliness and ability to remain calm in any situation.

The space flight participants who are part of the ISS-66 prime crew also expressed special gratitude to their commander. Roscosmos cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov is preparing for a flight together with film director Klim Shipenko and actress Yulia Peresild. The programs and duration of the expeditions for the cosmonaut and the film crew of the film "Challenge" are different, but the closer to the start, the tighter the schedule of joint work.

“I want to say a huge thank you to Anton Shkaplerov. Despite the fact that we did not always succeed in everything, he was patient and delicate. This attitude on the part of the crew commander gave us the opportunity to be bolder, ”emphasized Yulia Peresild .

The space flight participants do not hide that the preparation for the expedition to the ISS was not easy for them.

“It was hard, difficult, we slept a little. We studied the structure of the ISS and spacecraft modules, memorized many unfamiliar abbreviations. There was time for creativity, but less than when preparing for the filming of a film on Earth. Life has changed, of course. Space changes life ”, - director-director of the film“ Challenge ” Klim Shipenko shared his impressions .

The prime crew conducts the first of their comprehensive trainings on the ISS Russian Segment simulator. As well as understudies, they will have to work out normal and emergency situations. The exam on the ISS simulator is also quite difficult. During training, the crew must find and fix various malfunctions of life support systems on board the station, as well as cope with life-threatening situations: depressurization of the spacecraft, ammonia leak or fire.

Space flight participants began to prepare for an expedition to the ISS three months before the launch, one and a half of which - together with their crew commanders. According to the head of the CTC, Maxim Kharlamov, this is the shortest period in which it was possible to train space flight participants.

“They fully possess the volume of knowledge and skills that are required to implement the Challenge project on board the ISS. The training program for space flight participants is not new, but adapted for the implementation of a specific project. This experience is important for everyone. It will come in handy when preparing for short-term expeditions into orbit of scientists, doctors and other specialists who are not professional cosmonauts, "said Maxim Kharlamov .

At the end of the training, members of the examination committee, which includes specialists from Roscosmos enterprises, will assess the accuracy and coherence of the ISS-66 crews.

The launch of the Soyuz MS-19 manned spacecraft with the film crew of the Challenge project is scheduled for October 5, 2021.

"Kinoekipazh" passed the first exams before the flight to the ISS.

The crew with actress Peresild and director Shipenko passed the first exams before the flight to the ISS.

22:35 09/08/2021

MOSCOW, September 8 - RIA Novosti. The crew of the actress Julia Peresild and the director Klim Shipenko , which in October will go to the International Space Station for the filming of the feature film "Call", passed the first final exam with flying colors, the head of " Roskosmos " Dmitry Rogozin in his Telegram .

"The first day of complex examination training of ISS-66 crews at the Yuri Gagarin CTC is over: the prime crew on the ISS Russian Segment simulators - score 5.0. The backup crew on the spacecraft simulator - 4.56. Well done in general," Rogozin wrote.

On Wednesday, the prime crew, which includes cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov , Shipenko and Peresild, passed the exam on the ISS Russian segment simulator, and the backup crew - cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev , operator Alexei Dudin and actress Alena Mordovina - on the Soyuz MS simulator. The next day, the crews will exchange examination places.

As noted on the website of the Cosmonaut Training Center , the main crew had to find and fix various malfunctions of life support systems on board the station, as well as cope with life-threatening typical situations: spacecraft depressurization, ammonia leak or fire. The content of the examination card is known only to instructors who simulate contingencies for the crew. Astronauts and flight participants are not warned in advance about the problems that they have to fix.

After the exams, a week's rest is planned for the crews, after which on September 16, the interdepartmental commission at the CTC, based on the results of the exams, will admit the crews to prelaunch training at the Baikonur cosmodrome . The departure of the crews to the cosmodrome is scheduled for September 18.

The launch of the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft by the Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket from the Baikonur cosmodrome is scheduled for October 5. ISS-66 crews finish exam session

09.09.2021 15:53

Today, September 9, 2021, the ISS-66 prime crew consisting of Roscosmos cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov, space flight participants Klim Shipenko and Yulia Peresild is taking an exam on the Soyuz MS spacecraft. A day earlier, they successfully completed tasks on the simulator of the Russian segment of the International Space Station and received a well-deserved top five.

During the training, their crew faced a number of emergency situations: lack of communication between the Russian and American segments of the ISS, problems with turning on the Electron oxygen supply system, malfunction of the sanitation and sanitation device, false triggering of the smoke sensor. In addition, in accordance with the list of tasks in the examination card, the instructors of the Cosmonaut Training Center introduced an emergency situation for the ISS-66 prime crew - depressurization on the Russian segment of the station. The participants in the exam training completed all the tasks perfectly.

According to the results of the exam on the Soyuz MS simulator, the stand-ins received an assessment of 4.56. The ISS-66 backup crew includes Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, space flight participants Alexei Dudin and Alena Mordovina. According to experts, an exam on a ship simulator is more difficult than on a station simulator. And the point is not even that the training participants have to put on a spacesuit and work for hours in cramped conditions.

“The difference is in the dynamism of completing tasks. If we “live” a typical day on the simulator of the Russian segment of the ISS, then in the process of exam training on the spacecraft, time seems to be compressed. We need to quickly respond to emergency situations, understand how they will develop and make decisions quickly. This also applies to putting the spacecraft into orbit, and its approach to the station, and its descent to Earth. Everything in one training session, ”explained Oleg Kononenko , deputy head of the Cosmonaut Training Center for Cosmonaut Training, Commander of the Roscosmos Cosmonaut Detachment .

During training onboard the Soyuz MS spacecraft, the ISS-66 backup crew had to face such problems as a malfunction of the device analyzing the partial pressure of gas mixtures, failure of the onboard computer system, and therefore had to switch to manual mode when flying around and station. Another abnormal situation is the failure of the docking mechanism sensor, that is, the spacecraft docked with the ISS, but the system did not recognize it. In addition, there was a depressurization of the pneumatic system of the combined propulsion system, as a result of which the crew had to make an urgent descent. During the urgent descent, the main engine failed, it was necessary to turn it off and put into operation reserve engines for a safe descent to Earth.

The crews have changed places today. While the ISS-66 prime crew is taking an exam on the spacecraft simulator, their backup crews are being tested on the ISS Russian Segment simulator. If both crews successfully complete the tasks, their examination session can be considered completed. And next week cosmonauts and space flight participants will go to Baikonur for prelaunch training.

The launch of the Soyuz MS-19 manned spacecraft with the film crew of the Challenge scientific and educational project is scheduled for October 5, 2021.
