Fire, depressurisation or toxic atmosphere – on the @Space_Station we have to be prepared for anything. In such extreme situations, teamwork and coordination are vital, which is why we practice emergency procedures together @NASA_Johnson.

ISS-66 prime crew began joint training

07/23/2021 21:07

Members of the ISS-66 prime crew began to jointly prepare for the space expedition, which is just over two months away.

Today, July 23, 2021, Anton Shkaplerov, the commander of the Soyuz MS-19 manned transport spacecraft, as well as the space flight participants Klim Shipenko and Yulia Peresild, had a four-hour training session on the Soyuz MS spacecraft simulator in Sokol spacesuits.

During the practical training, the crew performed operations to prepare for the launch and launch the spacecraft into orbit, monitored the condition of the spacecraft systems and checked its tightness after separation from the launch vehicle. Under the command of the commander, we successfully completed the rendezvous with the International Space Station, its flyby and docking to the orbital complex in manual mode.

The launch of the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft, on board of which the participants of the unique scientific and educational project Challenge, will go into space, is scheduled for October 2021.

The full complement of the ISS-66 backup crew "flew" to the ISS

07/30/2021 11:30

"It turned out that they are excellent students!" The day before, he and his colleagues on the upcoming expedition, connected with the preparation of the scientific and educational project "Challenge", had a complex lesson on the simulator of the manned spacecraft "Soyuz MS" using the "Sokol" spacesuits.

During the training, the crew consisting of Roskosmos cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, director of photography for the film "Challenge" Alexei Dudin and actress Alena Mordovina worked out the regular program of the spacecraft's flight to the station according to a short two-turn scheme. Preparation for launch and launching of the Soyuz MS spacecraft into orbit, checking the tightness of the compartments and systems of the spacecraft after separation from the launch vehicle, maneuver with the transition to rendezvous, overflight and preparation for docking with the station - at all stages the crew acted competently and together.

Oleg Artemyev, being in the central seat of the descent vehicle, is unable to reach all the controls of the ship. One of the solutions to this problem is to assign some functions to those who occupy the adjacent seats. During the training session, Alena Mordovina, sitting on the right, worked, including with the valves for supplying oxygen to the volume of the descent vehicle, and controlled the evacuation of condensate. While checking space suits for tightness, Alexey Dudin worked with a valve that supplies oxygen to the space suits.

“There was no tension from the fact that there were non-professional cosmonauts in the neighboring seats, on the contrary, as a commander, I tried to organize the work of the crew,” said Oleg Artemyev . “It was important to understand what they learned over these months. It turned out that they know everything, they quickly grasp it, they themselves can work with what is prescribed for them according to the instructions. "

The astronaut added that he was lucky: in his crew there are purposeful people who love to learn.

“Alexey, sitting on the left, will help me in case of emergency situations,” Oleg Artemiev comments on the work of his crew . - He has on-board documentation ready, which Alexey can open at the right moment for the commander. Alena, in addition to her main duties, will have to record on a tablet all situations on board that will need to be reported to Earth. This is also a great responsibility and help. "

In total, the ISS-66 primary and backup crews have planned six such joint trainings on the Soyuz MS simulator.

Preflight preparation of the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft began at Baikonur

07/30/2021 18:00

In the assembly and testing building of the site No. 254 of the Baikonur cosmodrome, work has been completed on the reactivation and preparation of the Soyuz MS-19 manned transport spacecraft for the final stage of the pre-flight test program.

This week, in accordance with the schedule, the deactivation of the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft, which has been in storage at the technical complex since January 2021, took place. After the spacecraft was installed in the slipway, the specialists of the S.P. Korolev (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) carried out an external inspection of the product and control of the initial state of onboard systems, connected ground test equipment, completed the assembly of the test circuit and verification switching of the service equipment, as well as autonomous tests and installation of the Kazbek crew seats.

The work plan for the near future provides for the preparation of the ship for complex electrical tests, testing of on-board automation and checking the tightness of the circuits of the thermal control system.

The launch of the Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with the Soyuz MS-19 manned transport spacecraft under the program of delivering the 66th main expedition members to the International Space Station is scheduled for October 2021.

The creators of the scientific and educational project "Challenge" revealed some of the secrets of the film

07/31/2021 14:45

What does the actress Julia Peresild have to learn besides the script? Why should director Klim Shipenko master the skills of stage makeup? And which of the stars received a special invitation to Baikonur? Earthly questions and space answers were heard at the presentation at TASS, where they presented the most promising film projects, including a unique film, which is being created as part of the large-scale scientific and educational program of Channel One and Roscosmos. The working title is "Challenge", and the team is ready for all challenges.

“Houston, we have no problems” - these words became the unspoken epigraph of the film, which on Earth gathered perhaps the best crew to launch a historical project - both in cinematography and in space exploration. Before the start from Baikonur - two months and seven days, work on the picture is already underway around the clock.

“This year is very cosmic, Richard Branson flew, Jeff Bezos, but, and we want to repeat the primacy of Russia in space, we want to be the first to start shooting feature films in space. Guys, this is a huge challenge, in this case thanks to Roscosmos and the situation that allowed us to be on the International Space Station. And it would be stupid if the Russian cinema did not accept this pass from Roscosmos and did not make a good movie, ”said Konstantin Ernst, General Director of Channel One .

No one on the planet has ever filmed such a movie. On October 5, the launch of the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft to the ISS is scheduled with cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov and a film group of only two people: actress Yulia Peresild and director Klim Shipenko. The casting was not easy - there were almost 3,000 applicants for the main female role alone, of which 20 finalists were selected. Then the word was for the medical board.

“Many of our wonderful actresses simply did not pass, this does not mean that they are not healthy, they are healthy for the Earth. And for space, just tenfold requirements. We will be showing in September the show that was filmed during the selection of all our main candidates, and this is such a story in itself, such a series turned out to be quite dramatic, "said Konstantin Ernst .

Shipenko and Peresild have been going through fire and water for two months already - in grueling training with their understudies. And they teach not so much the scenario as volumes of instructions for any emergency situation.

“I'm actually more worried than Klim, he is very calm, despite the fact that some crazy loads and training are going on, look, he lost 15 kilograms of people,” said the founder and general producer of Yellow, Black and White Eduard Iloyan .

But this is not even the beginning. In orbit, Klim Shipenko will be one for all - director, cameraman, production designer, even make-up artist - to try to fulfill the shooting plan.

“I asked to be sent for six months, they said no, no, no, 12 days. I say: but at least another, at least another 10 add. No, no, no, only 12. I will do everything so that the maximum amount of space is filmed in space, ”said director Klim Shipenko .

“And approximately how much of the film will be filmed in space in real life? That is, it is clear that the plot assumes there, and the shooting here, on Earth, "- inquired Vladimir Tolstoy, adviser to the President of the Russian Federation  .
“About 35-40 minutes,” Klim Shipenko answered.

Outside the orbital takes, a scattering of our stars awaits the viewer: Vladimir Mashkov, Tatiana Dogileva, Sergey Burunov, Polina Agureeva, Maxim Matveev, members of the current space expedition Oleg Novitsky and Peter Dubrov entered the dreamcast or the dream team. Novitsky, by the way, should return to Earth on October 17 together with Shipenko and Peresild.

Special attention of the head of the Ministry of Culture Olga Lyubimova and presidential adviser Vladimir Tolstoy is riveted to this film start.

The film with the working title "Challenge" about a girl who, due to circumstances, is forced to prepare for a flight and go to the ISS in a month, is not just the first movie in orbit, but part of a joint scientific and educational project of Channel One and Roscosmos. For example, such accelerated training will be needed in the future to send other specialists into orbit: doctors, scientists. Abroad, there is enormous interest in our new stage into space.

In the meantime, work continues on the script, it is being transformed. And for the viewer, much will remain a secret until the release of the film. Who knows, maybe it’s true, in all cinemas in the universe.

Answering the questions under previous post, here is a suit for you called Pingvin.

In order to keep the heart and muscles sharp during the flight, the cosmonauts do physical exercises but also wear the Pingvin body-loading suit mimicking gravity loads:

ISS-66 crews start exam session

08/10/2021 19:25

In October this year, the next expedition is to go to the International Space Station. For the first time, the main and backup crews included people of creative professions - representatives of the film crew of the feature film "Challenge". They are expected to spend a little less than two weeks at the station, in contrast to the astronaut who will take them into orbit. ISS-66 crew commanders are actively preparing for the six-month expedition and have already begun exam training.

Today, August 10, 2021, Roskosmos cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Oleg Artemiev took the exam on manual controlled descent of the Soyuz MS spacecraft. They passed a similar test in March 2021, duplicating Oleg Novitsky and Peter Dubrov. Now Shkaplerov is the commander of the ISS-66 prime crew, Artemyev is his backup. There are no flight engineers in their crews, only space flight participants.

The centrifuge-based simulator simulates the overload experienced by the crew when returning to Earth. During the exam, the cosmonauts demonstrate an algorithm of actions that must be performed if an automatic failure occurs during the descent of the vehicle or a recommendation is made to switch to a manual controlled descent.

There are two modes - statics and dynamics. The cosmonaut performs the first two tasks while in a stationary centrifuge, the next two - when the centrifuge is set in motion. In any mode, it is necessary to land the vehicle with a minimum overload and as close as possible to the design point.

According to Anton Shkaplerov, who is preparing for his fourth space flight, each time it becomes easier to complete the exam tasks. But the expedition itself promises to be special for him, because for the first time he will bring artists on board the space station and take part in the filming of the feature film "Challenge". Both crews are preparing for the creative task. As a reminder, the ISS-66 prime crew included actress Yulia Peresild and director Klim Shipenko, while the backup crew included actress Alena Mordovina and director of photography Alexei Dudin.

ISS-66 crew commanders continue to pass exams

08/13/2021 15:52

For ISS-66 crew commander Anton Shkaplerov and his backup Oleg Artemyev, the examination session continued with tests on the Teleoperator specialized simulator.

This simulator is designed to train cosmonauts to implement the teleoperator manual control (TORU) mode by docking and docking to the nodes of the Russian segment of the ISS of unmanned spacecraft: cargo ships, retrofit modules, and others. Automatic docking is provided, but if this does not happen, it is necessary to switch to manual control of the processes.

There is only one professional cosmonaut in the crew of the 66th expedition to the ISS, which is to begin in October this year, the rest will fly in the status of space flight participants to implement the artistic and educational project "Challenge". The next expedition into orbit will be accompanied by intense work, including the undocking and docking of various spacecraft. These skills have been repeatedly practiced on the Teleoperator simulator.

During the current session, Anton Shkaplerov and his understudy will have to pass one more exam on the same simulator - teleoperator manual control of the Progress M-UM transport cargo ship-module, which includes the Pryhal nodal module. The launch of the new module into near-earth orbit and its inclusion in the Russian segment of the ISS is planned for November this year.

In early September, the ISS-66 crews will begin comprehensive exam training. Recall that the main crew includes Anton Shkaplerov, Yulia Peresild and Klim Shipenko, and the backup crew includes Oleg Artemiev, Alena Mordovina, Alexey Dudin.
