So the idea was to introduce a new GLONASS, with updated electronics. Two could be launched on a Soyuz, or even six on a Proton.

Plan was for a mass of 750 kg; against 1,400 kg for the current Uragan-M.

In the end the new Uragan-K came in at 935 kg and did not work.

Now the new second series of Uragan-K is to have a mass of 1,645 kg.

Is this a Glonass-K2 bird?

Yes, the first one. Also referred to as GLONASS-K satellites of 2nd series; or block II GLONASS-K.

it's also referred as Glonass-KM. Very confusing!

As I read from the GLONASS entry in Wikipedia, the Glonass-KM (second block of Glonass-K) can only be in production after 2015, would it take so long to deploy Glonass-K satellites?

How many Glonass-K2 satellites will be launched? We already know there will be two Glonass-K1 satellites (one of them was already launched in 2011).

Again, Glonass-K2 is not Glonass-KM. Glonass-K2 launches will possibly begin in 2016. Delays relate to problems with tests of on-board atomic clocks - http://izvestia.ru/news/564110 (in Russian).

It was approved in 2012 that 24 Glonass-K2 satellites (2 test and 22 normal) were to be produced till 2020 - http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=30175.msg972354#msg972354, but the current plan is to be determined due to problems with on-board atomic clocks, which are mentioned above.

For the moment everything points to this being a continuation of the existing series, the name covering its function not its form, with this being GLONASS-K №13L. However with this being so vastly different from the first two, it does make one wonder if they will give it a new GRAU index and start from number 1. Also interesting to note that in the latest presentations from Reshetnev they have dropped references to GLONASS-KM [*].

Back in 2011 all things pointed to this being a К2 model. However as of December 2013, the date 2018 is mentioned. Now an article says there are to be ten К1 models.

Will the ten K1 be the originally planned K2?

As if this posting, is there any estimate when the first of the Glonass-K2 satellites will launch?

Here are a lot of information about the planned launches of GLONASS satellites in the next years.
In 2019 are planned 3 Glonass-M, 1 K and 1 K2.
In 2020 1 M(the last M), 3 K and 1 K2.
In 2021 3 K.
I will not include the plans for the next years, because I think the plan will be changed.

ABOUT GLONASS SYSTEM
Next year the launches will be carried out on an operational basis, but two Glonass-K will definitely be launched, the second of which has a larger number of navigation signals, that is, this is an evolutionary development of the satellite. The launch of "Glonass-K2" is planned, and I am almost sure that the launch of the last "Glonass-M" will take place, because the resource of its ground storage will end by that time. Thus, approximately next year we have to launch four vehicles ...
