QuoteDecember 22: A Proton-M rocket to launch the Elektro-M No. 2-2 weather satellite. (As of August 2025. Delayed from July 2024)https://www.russianspaceweb.com/2025.htmlElektro-M is the successor to the Electro-L weather sattelites, four of which were launched in 2011 to 2023. Four Electro-M are or were planned: 1-1, 1-2, 2-1 and 2-2. Whyever the last one is to be launched first.https://www.russianspaceweb.com/elektro.html
The launch of the Proton-M rocket carrying the weather satellite is scheduled for mid-December.MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. The launch of the Proton-M heavy-lift launch vehicle carrying the Elektro-L No. 5 hydrometeorological satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome is scheduled for mid-December, Roscosmos reported."A Proton-family launch vehicle will launch from Baikonur in mid-December. <...> The space heavyweight will send the Elektro-L No. 5 weather satellite into space," the statement reads. It is noted that the upcoming launch will be the 430th for Proton rockets, which have been flying into space since 1965.The Electro-L hydrometeorological satellites, while in geostationary orbit, allow for the acquisition and processing of multispectral images of clouds and the underlying Earth's surface across the entire observable disk of the Earth, the acquisition of hydrometeorological data in orbit, the performance of telecommunications functions in terms of the dissemination and exchange of hydrometeorological and heliogeophysical data, and the relay of signals from emergency radio beacons of the COSPAS-SARSAT system. The first Elektro-L satellite was launched in January 2011, but contact was lost in October 2016. Elektro-L No. 2 entered orbit in 2015, and No. 3 in 2019. They are still operational.
From Roscosmos Telegram...Final Launch of the DM-Type Upper Stage from BaikonurPreparations for the launch of the Elektro-L No. 5 hydrometeorological spacecraft, manufactured by NPO Lavochkin, are nearing completion at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The spacecraft will be launched into geostationary orbit by a Proton-M launch vehicle (manufactured by the Khrunichev Center) carrying the DM-03 upper stage (manufactured by Energia Corporation).🗓 Launch is scheduled for December 15.This will be the final launch of the DM-Type upper stage from Baikonur. Including its predecessor, the D-Type upper stage, this will be the 300th flight from Baikonur for this type of upper stage since 1967.🔴All subsequent launches of Energia-manufactured upper stages will be performed only from the Vostochny and Plesetsk Cosmodromes.

Was this expected? I thought there were still a few to go, bringing its retirement close to the 2030s?

So the last Proton-DM then. I guess the DM-03 and possible derivatives will live on with Angara?
