Isn't this the crew that was supposed to include the Tunisian woman?

With what was announced :
Prime -- Back-Up

MS-24 : Kononenko/Chub/O'Hara -- Ovchinin/Dyson
MS-25 : Novitsky/Dyson/Vasilevskaya -- Vagner/Pettit/Lenkova
MS-26 : Ovchinin/Platonov (?)/Tunisian or Pettit -- Ryzhikov/Mykayev/???

(If the Tunisian fly, Dyson will have a year mission)

With maybe Platonov remove from MS-26 prime too, I personally bet on Vagner jump on this slot.

I think that the Tunisian flight will fade away. The guy who announced it, back in 2022, and seemed to be 'funding' it, is now in jail for alleged fraud and corruption.

Roscosmos:
Factory control tests of the Soyuz MS-26 manned spacecraft have been completed at the control and test station of the S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia (part of Roscosmos State Corporation).

Yesterday, the ship was sent to the Baikonur Cosmodrome to prepare for launch to the International Space Station in September 2024.

In the fall of 2023, Soyuz MS-26 underwent autonomous tests of onboard systems and electrical tests of service equipment and hardware. After completion of the complex, pneumovacuum and acceptance tests, specialists from RSC Energia's Experimental Engineering Plant performed the exit inspection and loading of the spacecraft into the railroad transportation unit.

https://www.gctc.ru/main.php?id=155 indicates that Pettit's backup will be Jonny Kim. Interestingly, Vagner's backup is Zubritskiy, not Mikaev, but Mikaev is still MS-27 FE1.

Backup crew getting EVA training
Google Translate: version from: https://www.gctc.ru/main.php?id=6719
Mandatory stage of preparation for spacewalk: Sergei Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky underwent training in the hydro laboratory

On June 11, they consolidated their skills in extravehicular activities (EVA): opening and closing the hatch, moving and working on the outer surface of the station, calculated emergency situations. This training can be called a test, so the instructors tried to create for the cosmonauts as many emergency situations as possible that they might encounter during EVA.

At the same time, special attention was paid to transporting the incapacitated operator: the cosmonauts performed this operation in turn, changing places. They also practiced emergency escape into the transition compartment when they detected depressurization of the hatch when closing it.

– Recently, work with the ERA robotic arm has been included in the crew training program. After several training sessions on standard operations, the cosmonauts began working on target tasks planned during upcoming spacewalks,” explained Valery Nesmeyanov, head of the 1st laboratory, head of the test and training team.

Working with extravehicular activities means using tools that are placed on the attachments of the Orlan spacesuit. This kit necessarily includes a universal tool - a cutter - a knife, which is used to perform various tasks, including for working in emergency situations. There is also a special container where, during work, astronauts put small things that they need to take with them, for example, nuts and wire.

Solving the target tasks that the cosmonauts began during training in the hydro laboratory on June 14 involves installing and/or repairing and working with equipment, because every spacewalk includes conducting scientific experiments, the implementation of which is impossible without equipment.

With the participation of instructors, divers and doctors, during the training the cosmonauts completed all the standard and targeted tasks that were assigned to them and showed a good level of interaction in the hydroenvironment. Sergei Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky are now undergoing training as backups for the main crew of the 72nd long-term expedition to the ISS.

What is R&D “LASMA-FKP”? Medical specialists of the Center of Training Center are conducting research on the influence of simulated unfavorable factors of space flight on blood microcirculation

Astronauts participate in a new scientific experiment during regular medical examinations. Before training in a centrifuge, in a pressure chamber, on a vestibular chair and an orthotable, specialists attach portable laser analyzers “Lasma PF” to the head, arms and legs of the subject to obtain perfusion indicators, that is, the passage of blood through the body tissues. Doctors compare the astronaut’s data obtained during research with the original data, before exposure to an unfavorable factor.

The purpose of this research work is to collect data and analyze the functional state of blood microcirculation and oxidative metabolism of human body tissues under conditions simulating the effects of adverse factors of space flight - overload, hypoxia, vestibular and orthostatic influences.

As part of the stated experiment, doctors are studying the effect of stressful conditions on the microvasculature of the human cardiovascular system - these are vessels with a diameter of less than 10 - 15 microns, for example, capillaries. It is microcirculatory dysfunction that serves as a marker and/or mechanism that can lead to cardiovascular disorders, including not only in space flight, but also on earth, if the human body is subjected to significant stress.

Research on this topic began at the Cosmonaut Training Center in March 2024. The main task at the initial stage was to develop the technological research process.

– In relation to the base of our Center, this technique is new. Therefore, at the first stages of work, it was very important to get an answer to the main question - is it technically possible in principle to carry out this research, first of all, in a centrifuge and in a pressure chamber: where and how to mount the analyzers, will we receive signals, what quality will these signals be, and so on? further,” said Kirill Kireev, deputy head of the Center for Medical Testing and Research.

The completion of the LAZMA-FKP research work is scheduled for spring 2025. Based on its results, CTC specialists plan to develop proposals for improving medical control in order to increase the safety of research when exposed to adverse factors of space flight.

The work is carried out jointly with the Scientific and Technical Center for Biomedical Photonics of the Oryol State University named after I.S. Turgenev."

GT:
The descent and landing were successful: cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner had training on the complex simulator of the Soyuz manned spacecraft.

04 July 2024

On such simulators, cosmonauts practice all stages of work: pre-launch preparation of the transport ship, its insertion into orbit, maneuvering, rendezvous, mooring, docking and flight in conjunction with the ISS. Accordingly, the cosmonauts also “rehearse” the reverse procedure: undocking from the International Space Station, descent from orbit and landing.

A training cycle is devoted to improving the skills of carrying out all these operations. Thus, on July 3, Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner practiced the stages of undocking the spacecraft from the station, descent and landing on the TDK-7ST4 simulator. This time the crew was “given” an emergency situation – depressurization of the descent module. This is a serious accident that threatens the life and health of astronauts, so in this case an urgent descent is provided. You can stay in a ship with damaged hull integrity for no more than 125 minutes.

In the case of the normal Soyuz descent mode, the crew takes their places in the descent module, checks the equipment and condition of the cabin, the tightness of the spacesuits, then there is preparation for undocking and the undocking itself - the launch of the dynamic mode, which “pushes” the ship away from the station, then there is maneuvering and preparation for descent. When the necessary impulse for this is received, the Soyuz is divided into sections, as a result of which only the descent module returns to Earth.

An urgent descent follows the same pattern, but much faster. The algorithm of actions is prescribed in the on-board documentation.

– It is impossible to issue a descent impulse at any time, otherwise the descent vehicle may end up in the ocean instead of land or land in a mountainous area, in the taiga, so the crew has a table of time “windows” when they can act. The instructor’s task is not only to introduce emergency situations, but also to check how astronauts act during normal work and during an emergency situation: quickly or slowly, correctly or incorrectly. The crew must be guided by on-board documentation, but sometimes cosmonauts do something from memory, and they may miss something, and the instructor must point out all the mistakes to them. “Debriefing” takes place at the end of the training, and not only the instructor gives comments to the participants, but also the crew expresses wishes and gives reasons for their actions during work. And at the end, a grade is always given for the training,” said Dmitry Vovk, leading specialist in cosmonaut training at the Cosmonaut Training Center.

Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner successfully dealt with the given emergency situations. The cosmonauts are currently preparing for the 72nd long-duration expedition to the ISS as the prime crew. The launch is scheduled for September 2024.

Bringing the Soyuz to the station: Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner worked out the operation of rendezvous of the manned transport spacecraft with the ISS

July 18, 2024

The ISS 72 main crew trained on the Don-Soyuz simulator. In a real flight, the approach of a manned transport vehicle (TPV) to the station occurs automatically. But in the event of an emergency, the astronaut controls the spacecraft manually.

To switch to manual control, a number of conditions must be met: more than 25 minutes must remain in the shadow before the Soyuz enters, the distance between the docking objects (ship and station) is approximately 2 kilometers, the third correction of the TPC must also take place and the image of the ISS must be in the field of view visual devices.

The operation of manually approaching the ship is performed by two crew members. The commander, being in the descent module, directly controls the movement of the TPK.  In this he is assisted by a second cosmonaut - a flight engineer, whose workplace is in the service compartment, where the necessary equipment is installed to determine the parameters of the relative motion of the ship. This is an LDI - a pulse laser rangefinder designed to determine the range of the TPK to the ISS, and a coordinate calculation unit to determine the speed of movement. The commander uses the data received from the flight engineer to control the Soyuz.

During the manual approach of the TPV to the station, the commander performs an action by adjusting the speeds in the longitudinal channel and damping the lateral speeds, and also maintains the orientation of the ship relative to the ISS. After the final approach, the TPV orbits to the docking port specified from Earth (there are four of them on the ISS). Next, if necessary, a roll turn and hovering is performed at a range from 250 to 160 meters.

Cosmonauts learn how to manually approach a spacecraft first in groups and then in crews, in accordance with the training program. But these skills are not always in demand.

– During the flights, everything took place in a normal, automatic mode, so I did not have manual control of the ship in space. But we need to be prepared for any situation, so we constantly train,” said Alexey Ovchinin, the ship’s commander, who has completed two space flights.

Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner successfully completed training on the Don-Soyuz simulator and received an excellent rating from the instructor. Now the cosmonauts are finishing their training as the main crew of the 72nd long-term expedition to the ISS, which is scheduled to launch in September 2024.

Roscosmos published #SoyuzMS26 emblem. The ship will be launched from Baikonur on September 11 with Aleksey Ovchinin, Ivan Vagner and Donald Pettit, and it is planned to dock on the same day to Rassvet nadir docking port. The crew members are represented as “space burlaks”. ⤵️

Burlaks were the river boat or barge pullers in the Russian empire, this is an iconic image in Russian art thanks to Ilya Repin's painting "Burlaks on the Volga" and Fyodor Chaliapin's famous song "Dubinushka". ⤵️

It is also a call sign of #SoyuzMS26 crew. According to Roscosmos, “it symbolizes the team spirit of the crew and the willingness to overcome any difficulties.”
