Am I the only one who found the Artemis program's "We Are Going!" slogan cringeworthy?
It hinted of a workforce doubting its own progress and management responding with a motivational poster.

Well, perhaps they had to adopt The Little Engine That Could's mantra of "I think I can! I think I can!", but here's hoping that within a few days it will shift to a triumphant "I thought I could! I thought I could!"

I think it's more "we are finally flying hardware rather than just talking about it". SLS has been planned for 12 years ... really more like 18 if you count Ares V.

I just realized the first five segment booster test was October 2003 for Shuttle though.

For those who truly detest the SLS, you can validate your sentiments by not watching the launch or mission events on TV. There are plenty of infomericals, reality programs, daytime TV shows, etc. to occupy your time. Or just surf the internet for anything not associated with SLS.

Excellent advice, another body outta my way in the fight for stable video whenever the CAPU spin up. It's going to be an awesome spectacle.

Will it only be available internationally via NasaTV? I presume that NSF will do a feed, so might have to tune into that.

I would love to have a stream with no talking heads and just the mission control audio. That's kinda my dream.

I'm really looking forward to the SLS launch, I'm too young to remember the Saturn V launches, and only saw the Shuttle launches on the 6 o'clock news. This going to be a real rip snorta to watch live!

Cannot begin to imagine what it would be like to watch this in person.

That's the way I interpreted it. But in that vein, viewed it as a "counting chickens" enthusiasm that was the cringeworthy part. History would suggest to hedge your assertions.

Yeah, expectations management is something NASA is terrible at. This is, after all, a test flight of an unflown rocket.

This should have a poll added to it to ask which of the three launch windows it will actually fly on or if it will get delayed beyond them. I am looking forward to this launch and right now don't care if SLS is the best choice or not. I just want to see this fly successfully after all these years.

Before the James Webb telescope was launched, all you heard was "late", "overpriced", "ridiculous", "so many failure modes", and so on. Once it was up there, all this stopped completely.

Does anyone care to speculate on what the SLS news will sound like in a month?

It is a cliche in product development: after a product is successful, nobody cares if it was late or over budget. The problems arise when the product is not successful. JWST has been spectacularly successful and is very likely to continue so for a long time. Artemis is not yet successful in the same way and I doubt that most folks will consider it to be successful in any sense until a crew lands on the Moon. At that point maybe some folks will consider it successful, but lots of folks may not think so if China lands first or a commercial mission lands first. Your question is about perceptions, not any objective measurement.

Nobody cares about SLS, other than the regular spaceflight enthusiasts and a large percentage of the spaceflight enthusiasts are either ho hum or vehemently against it.
The general public, is for the most part, unaware or uninterested.
But this is the party thread, no Debbie Downers, so I'm going with. Artemis 1 will send back imagery that will seduce us. Setting the stage for Artemis 3, well not so much Artemis 3 as Starship, to capture the public imagination like Apollo.

Two more days to liftoff! Wow. What a journey this has been. Through Ares V, "We've been there before", Direct and finally through all the controversy to SLS. Hopefully, we can add it to this list as the second most powerful launch vehicle in the world at 38.37 MN.

I'm certainly not among the SLS fans, but, dang, do I want to see that thing take off and fly! It's going to be an enormous spectacle.
