Epsilon S Development Updates Thread
« on: 06/12/2020 05:50 pm »
Epsilon S, like Vega-C and E, introduces commonality with H-III (H3) via switching to SRB-3 for the booster stage. Also many other enhancements and upgrades are planned, for instance a larger diameter third stage. This thread is for Updates.

The resulting fire continues long after the explosion.  Looks like it's took out the GSE as well.  If you look at the video, there is a jet of flames directed away from the building.

Yeah the test stand is definitely toast.

A shortened replay video was published of the incident at a much better resolution and without all the screen clutter.

In the attached screen grab, there is a very bright object traveling from the test stand and moving upwards.  It looks very hot and takes the route marked in green.

No wonder it failed, a turbine in solid rocket motor ; )

The flying streak is likely a lit solid propellant fragment ejected out the back. Possible propellant grain failure?

Was this test supported by Parliament Funkadelic, because they nearly tore the roof off the sucka shed

Casual observation: solid rocket motors usually don't have turbines.
My guess is this was a fiercely burning fragment of solid propellant flying away.

What do you mean, there are at least eight ( 8 ) turbines in the video.

Ok, OK, everyone, I get it.   I didn't do enough background checking before making that comment.  What you saw flying was my ass on fire.   ;)

Interesting that the camera began to shake shortly *before* the explosion could be seen.  Resonance?
