Now, if someone could tell me why the torus tank is slanted, I would appreciate it. Also, I notice that for the canceled LK-1 mission, their upper stage had a slanted fuel tank, too.

I have updated my list with (almost) all serial numbers.

http://www.kosmonavtika.com/lanceurs/blocd/liste/tous.html

It is interesting to note that 11S824 upper stages sometimes took the serial number of their payloads. This way, you can note that Luna-16 and Luna-17 have probably switched their upper stages...

Interesting… but you should include the Zond accident in July 1968.

If you mean the one that kind of fell over onto the railings, I knew a guy with a big scar on his head from that.

How do these "enlarged" prop tanks compare with the larger prop tanks used in Blok-DM-03?

Earlier in this thread, there is a discussion about the "03" variant of the 11D58 engine, the one developed as part of the "Dvina" project.

However, Energia has released information about the "MF" version of the engine, a major revision that reduces thrust to 5 tons, but increases ISP to 372-380 seconds, with 390 achievable if Sintin fuel is used.

So, how does this 11D58MF engine fit into the Dvina program???

In other words, the 11D58MF engine is destined to someday be used on the Block DM-03 system.

Apparently, Block DM-03 is being implemented in 3 stages, with the first being the enlarged prop tank.

The $64,000 question is whether the Blok D LOX tank was derived from the Soyuz Stage I tank, and whether the new "enlarged" DM-03 tank is likewise developed from the Soyuz-2 upper stage LOX tank.

11D58MF engine fits into Dvigatel-2015 program, while 11D58MF would be used as a main propulsion system in Dvina-DM program (Note that Dvina is a generic name for various Upper Stage development in Roskosmos)

Look at this chronology of PAS 5 launch, in 1997, with a Block DM-3.

http://88.210.62.157/content/numbers/159/07.shtml

At 74'20", they make a difference between "URMD SOZ" and "RMD SOZ".

Do you know what is the difference ? Is there several types of SOZ ??

It sounds like URMD are just for stabilisation, attitude, not ullage?

That's a pretty amazing performance for a LOX/kerosene engine. How do they achieve that ?

RD-58MF is a LRE for Block DM Dvina Phase II - planned to be ready for test flight in 2015. Isp increase for significant decrease of thrust.
