I just happened to find out that in 1946, Martin proposed the Orbit Project for a rudimentary orbital rocket utilizing some design heritage of captured V-2 missiles.
The Orbit Project was a follow-on to the Martin's earlier High Altitude Test Vehicle (HATV) proposal for a single-stage-to-orbit satellite launch vehicle was designed for the US Navy immediately after the end of World War II.
