CUE CARD - FOOD PREP/POST Galley & Food Warmer
« on: 11/21/2022 08:02 pm »
Shown below just in time for your Thanksgiving holiday (U.S.) and belated (Sorry) for our Canadian friends is the official flown cue card from STS-41 that was flown and velcroed to the mid deck galley. It was obviously generic to any mission.  You know you've seen it before a dozen times, but the pictures were all a bit to grainy too read the procedure.

The Standard Galley procedures (on side B) were used on: STS-9, 41B, 41C, 41G, 51C, 51B, 51G, 51F, 51I, 51J, 61A, 61C, 51L, 26, 27, 29, 30, 28, 34, 33, 32,36, 31,41,38, 35, 37, 39, 40, 43, 48, 44, 42, 45, 46 (35 Missions!)

The Food Warmer Procedures (Side A) were used on: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, 8, 41D, 51A, 51D & 61B. (12 Missions) The Food Warmer was also flown just in case on missions with the galley in the event it failed.

The Standard Galley was notorious for minor water leaks and water dispensing glitches (generally that did not require floating/lugging out the food warmer built into the Zero Case).

With STS-49, 50, & STS-47 and subsequent Missions (about 88 of them) a new galley called the Shuttle Orbiter Repackaged Galley (SORG) was flown through the remainder of the program. Most of the IFAs were ironed out early on and it became very reliable and provided these missions additional margin in weight allowances.

Interesting! Thanks for posting!

Just a question: In which Checklist FDF are these or the SORG procedures shown, or to which FDF does this cue card belong?

This one would be originally from the Cue Cards Book, ALL VEH or GENeric dated circa 1989 or 1990.

There are a couple later versions called and possibly renamed the Cue Cards and Procedural Decals Book (JSC-48013) one of which is on L2 and another out there somewhere, but they are both limited to the decals.

I have yet to see the onboard FDF procedures for the SORG Galley in any document, although there is a good description in the Shuttle Crew Operations Manual Sec. 2.12.
