Fallen Astronaut Memorial Movie
« on: 06/14/2019 12:04 am »
Hello everybody,

who does not know this legendary picture of the Fallen Astronaut, that was created by the Belgian artist Paul Van Hoeydonck, which has similarily entered the history of manned space flight like the first Moon landing, the 50th Anniversary of which next month is imminent.

Source: BILD (Ken Glover)

During the Apollo 15 mission 1971, Commander David Scott secretly placed the Fallen Astronaut on the Moon, along with a plaque bearing the names of eight American astronauts and six Soviet cosmonauts those died in the pursuit of exploration of space.

Scott photographed the memorial secretly, but waited until the post-mission press conference to publicly disclose its existence.

Now filmmaker Frank Herrebout (The Netherlands) is working on a Fallen Astronaut Documentary.

On his Website he says the following about his astonishing project:

The Fallen Astronaut Memorial Movie depicts the compelling story of one of the most extraordinary achievements of the Space Age, a Memorial on the Moon dedicated to all the astronauts and cosmonauts who died during the Race to the Moon.

For almost 50 years a little sculpture is facing us, day and night. But most of the world doesn't even know of its existence. That's why we make this movie, because The Fallen Astronaut Memorial deserves a place of honour in our collective memory.

As I know of him, there will be two versions:

A 50 minutes version for television purposes as well as a 90 minutes version for theater screenings and filmfestivals.

The release of the 90 minutes version is scheduled for October this year in Antwerp.

After the première the film will be available on DVD, BluRay and On Demand.
I cannot wait to see this movie.

I have meet the artist on several occasions and was invited for the premiere showing in Antwerp.
The "Fallen Astronaut" is a superb & belated tribute to an amazing artwork by Paul Van Hoeydonck and the fascinating achievements of NASA's Apollo Moon program of the 1960s & 1970s !
This photo shows me holding a spare artwork in my hand, wearing the appropriate Omega Speedmaster chronograph on a steel mesh Jacoby Bender bracelet...
