Mars Exploration Timeline

Hi all,

I’m new here and looking for people knowledgeable about Mars exploration to help with a project. I recently released an app for iOS devices (Android may come in the future) that is basically a comprehensive encyclopedia of all the missions ever sent to the Red Planet.

Most of the information in the app is from official NASA sources, and all other sources are carefully cross referenced. The information in the app is as good as it can get coming from a one-person research “team.” Still, I am always shooting for better, and that is where I need help.

If you are familiar with the red planet and have some time, I would like to ask you to start using the app and report every mistake you encounter. I am mainly looking for factual (or maybe grammatical) errors, but of course, every feedback is welcome. So, please feel free to write to me if you have any insights. With the help of others, I am hoping to eventually make the app the premier source for Mars exploration.

Get a copy of Asif Siddiqi's NASA monograph on planetary exploration.

It's a good source of data on that subject.

I've yet to install the app-looks good-but something you may want to include is the launch site of each mission.  For example, the store page shows Mariner IV and Mars V.  Mariner IV launched from Launch Complex 12 at Cape Canaveral and Mars V launched from Area 24, Site 81, Baikonur Cosmodrome.  From my Wikipediaing this would be written as "Cape Canaveral LC-12, Florida, United States" and "Tyuratam (Baikonur Cosmodrome 81/24), U.S.S.R."
