TSR Thor Historic District article
« on: 01/07/2016 05:39 pm »
I wrote up a brief article on the possibility of a Thor Historic District at Vandenberg, since the Delta II tower at SLC-2 and the Thor pads at SLC-10 are the last remaining infrastructure of this amazing missile/rocket program:

TSR: "Bringing Asgard to Earth: Making a Thor Heritage District at Vandenberg"

I'd welcome any feedback or discussion on it.

Thanks!

I think the white tail Delta II would be better at KSC/CCAFS.

I would agree... on the vector that CCAFS is better positioned to hold a historic artifact such as the Delta II.

Vandy has few missiles/rockets on display - a LGM-30G Minuteman III near the main gate, and a LGM-30A Minuteman 1 near the 576th Flight Test Squadron. The Titan I downstage on 395 Charlie is off-limits to viewers.

As for the infrastructure, having a flight-ready model in position at SLC-2W would probably be a safety hazard the 30th Space Wing wouldn't want to deal with.

But saving the infrastructure itself, instead of watching it be vandalized (e.g. SLC-5), demolished without warning (e.g. SLC-4) or allowed to just deteriorate (e.g. SLC-1), would be a key goal of a proposed historic district.
