NASA Adjusts Crew-5 Launch Date Due to Hurricane IanNASA and SpaceX are targeting no earlier than 12:23 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Oct. 4, for the launch of the agency’s Crew-5 mission to the International Space Station with a backup opportunity on Wednesday, Oct. 5.Mission teams will continue to monitor the impacts of Ian on the Space Coast and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and could adjust the launch date again, as necessary. More updates on the planning schedule, including crew arrival from the agency’s Johnson Space Center to Kennedy, will be provided more in the coming days. Based on current schedules, crew arrival is planned no earlier than Friday, Sept. 30. The safety of the crew, ground teams, and hardware are the utmost importance to NASA and SpaceX.The Dragon Endurance spacecraft is currently mated to the Falcon 9 rocket and safely secured inside SpaceX’s hangar at Launch Complex 39A. Kennedy Space Center is also making preparations across the spaceport to secure other property and infrastructure. SpaceX planned to launch two Falcon 9 rockets Sept. 30 and Oct. 3, one with the next batch of Starlink internet satellites and another with a team of four astronauts and cosmonauts to begin a five-month expedition on the International Space Station.Both missions have been postponed, with the crew launch now tentatively rescheduled for no earlier than Oct. 5 at 12 p.m. EDT (1600 GMT).
The next SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch four astronauts on NASA's Crew-5 mission on October TBA, around 11am-noon EDT. A Falcon 9 from pad 40 will launch the Galaxy 33 & 34 communication satellites on October 6 at 7:07pm EDT. Sunset is 7:03pm. The launch window stretches to 8:14pm. A Falcon 9 from pad 40 will launch the Hotbird 13F comsat for Eutelsat on October 13 at 11:25pm EDT. The launch window stretches two hours. Upcoming launches include more Starlink satellites from pad 40 on October TBD. And a Falcon Heavy will launch USSF-44 for the US Space Force from pad 39A in late October TBA. The side boosters will land back at the Cape about eight minutes after launch.
