Chinese state missile maker CASIC and its commercial space subsidiary Expace is preparing to launch its Kuaizhou-1A (Y8) solid rocket before the end of September, carrying the 'Centispace-1-1S' ("微厘空间一号系统S1试验卫星") test satellite into 700 km SSO.

The first Kuaizhou-1A was launched in January 2017. This second launch is being designated as the 8th such rocket, due to previously signed contracts for launches. This mission will be additional to the ~35 being planned by main space contractor CASC for 2018 (2/3).

This means that together with CASC, emerging players like Expace, Landspace and potentially OneSpace, there could be around 40 Chinese launches in 2018 (3/3).

The source for this is from CASIC's Weibo account. They stated that:

- The contract for this launch was only received this May and the team will arrive at the launch site in late August for launch in September.
- This rocket is indeed s/n Y8 - the skipped numbers are for missions not yet prepared for launch.
- Details of the payload, including the owner of the satellite, will be announced at a later date.

Spaceflightfans.cn now lists the launch for Sep. 29 between 11:00 and 13:00 China Time (02:00 – 05:00 UTC)

Not much info about that payload has surfaced yet, but the top company logo on the rocket is of a Beijing-based company called Future Navigation. According to public record they seems to be developing satellites for satellite navigation augmentation system in LEO.

Or maybe their satellite is just one of they payloads. The full payload composition is not yet known at this time.

CASIC reports that the next KZ-1A launch is on November 25......but again it's not known what is on board.
