The 9ifly space forum post on HaiYang launches (dated July 19) was apparently reproduced from this site where the launch of HY-2 is said to be planned for this year.

Another poster in the same forum on the same date declares: "the launches of Beidou and HuanJing-1C are postponed to next year, the Indonesia satellite [Palapa-D1] will be the next launch."

I had already read about this delays. They look very strange after all the news about the BeiDou deployment and they could mean some kind of problem with the system. Once gain I think that we have to wait and see what China will make in the next few months.

A message posted to-day on a Chinese space forum indicates:
 - Sinosat-6 launch in 2010-Q3
 - Sinosat-5 launch in 2011-Q2

Yes, I had seen that; the poster also said it could still be a CZ-3C which would imply a GEO sat (ie Compass-G3).

According to Indosat, Palapa-D will be launched in August.
Then I wonder if Compass-G3 could make it in August also from Xichang ;)

Palapa-D launch is actually planned for end of August. Coherent with the already published date to attend the next launch at XSLC.

According to a Chinese forum, three Chinese domestic satellites have suffered major failures this year (Compass-G2 is seemingly one of them); consequently the upcoming  Beidou-2-follow-ups launches have been delayed.

Edit: another of the three failures involves Beidou-1D

Any idea which other satellites have failed, and whether the failures have resulted in a loss of mission?

Can you provide a link to the post please.

Thanks.

NigeriaSat also failled and remember the reports about the Simon Bolivar (Venesat-1).
The 3 failures earlier this year take into account only domestic satellites:
- Beidou-1D (deorbited in February)
- Compass-G2 (using the upgraded DFH-3A platform), problem started back in June
- One unidentified

BeiDou-1D was not deorbited. I supose you mean taken out of service.

BeiDou-1D was not deorbited. I supose you mean taken out of service.
Right, AFAICS, its apogee has always been greater than 36200 km.
In February its orbit was raised and it started drifting fast.
In late June, its still low perigee was further raised 200 km.

As far as I can trace it, the "around August 20" date for Palapa-D1 launch seems to originate in a Chinese stamp collector forum after Indosat had said "end of August". It could well be just the poster's own interpretation of "end of August"....
