Artemis I - 4K 60fps AV1 video of launch
« on: 11/16/2022 10:33 pm »
Here's what you've been waiting for. The Artemis I launch in 4K 60fps encoded straight from the NASA UHD 4K 60fps source.

Note: NASA did livestream in 4K, but only 30fps.

This documents T -30sec to last ground track camera shot.

I used SVT-AV1 to encode at preset 3 and quality 40.

I have separately a video of Charlie Blackwell-Thompson's whole speech but it's too big to attach.

To watch in any modern browser, change the file extension from .mkv to .webm.

I felt this needed to be in a separate thread as it would get buried in the main discussion thread.

Edit: I sincerely apologize for that 1 corrupt TS packet during ascent as I am working with 2.4Ghz 802.11n Wifi bandwidth.

Edit 2: SEE HERE for the full broadcast in AV1, and if anyone wanted to see it, the official NASA H264 version.

Here's more of the launch with fixed audio starting from the RS-25 TVC test to the same end point as before.

Again, due to a limit of the forum, rename the file from .mkv to .webm to play in any modern browser. Chris, this needs to be fixed so .webm is a allowed file type/extension.

The hotly anticipated 4K 60p version of the red crew interview!

Note: The picture glitches were present in the original broadcast output and were not a result of encoding it. It's also there in the official 4K 30p NASA YouTube version.

File extension change still has to be done as aforementioned in the previous post.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the full launch broadcast as seen on NASA UHD in AV1 with fixed audio:

https://archive.org/details/artemis1full_fixedaudio

This is 7GB vs NASA's "low bitrate H264" version at 37GB which is still inferior in quality. If you were still interested in a official NASA version, it's here:
