From https://www.jaxa.jp/press/2022/05/20220518-1_j.html

Experiment period: July 10, 2022 ~ September 17, 2022 (including preliminary period)
(However, it is limited to (1) July 10 ~ July 17, (2) August 8 ~ August 17, (3) September 6 ~ September 17 of the above period.) )*

Test site: Uchinoura Space Observatory (Hebetsuke-cho, Hepatsuke-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture)

Rocket to be launched: S-520-32

Scheduled date of experiment: Sunday, July 10, 2022, 23:00~24:00 (Japan Standard Time)

Outline of the experiment: [Observation of vertical and horizontal structure of electron density when ionospheric disturbance occurs] Disturbance of the atmosphere (plasma) in a region called the ionosphere at a height of 80 ~ 300 km from the ground (there is a shade of density) is a phenomenon that affects the position determination of smartphones and car navigation systems. In this experiment, we aim to observe the vertical and horizontal structure of plasma density using a measuring instrument mounted on a sounding rocket and to elucidate the mechanism of occurrence of this phenomenon.

* For the convenience of observation, the launch will be carried out before and after the full moon.

Not sure if this hypersonic test failure from Hawaii on June 29 was listed elsewhere.  Please move if needed.  This was a Common Hypersonic Glide Body test.

I posted about that failure in the general hypersonic thread at the time.

And yet again this has already been posted in general hypersonic thread along with the official press release.

The S-520-32 launch has been delayed.

https://www.jaxa.jp/press/2022/07/20220710-1_j.html

"The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) had planned to launch the S-520-32 sounding rocket from the Uchinoura Space Observatory on Sunday, July 10, 2022, but due to the occurrence of an event that should be technically confirmed in the onboard observation instrument, it has been postponed.

A new launch date will be announced as soon as it is decided."

"Results of the S-520-RD1 sounding rocket

July 24, Reiwa, 2022

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) launched the sounding rocket S-520-RD1 from the Uchinoura Space Observatory on Sunday, July 24, 2022 as part of its "Fundamental Research on Fluids and Combustion for Hypersonic Flight."

The rocket flew normally and fell over the southeast sea of Uchinoura.
Rocket Flight Results
Rocket Models: S-520-RD1
Launch Time (Japan Standard Time): 05:00:00
Launch Upper and Lower Angles Maximum: 78.0°
Altitude: 168km (206 seconds after liftoff)
Landing Time: 412 seconds after launch

The weather at the time of launch was sunny, with a west-southwest wind of 0.7 m/s and a temperature of 23.5 degrees Celsius.

With this, the S-520-RD1 sounding rocket experiment will be completed.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all parties involved in the implementation of the launch of the S-520-RD1 sounding rocket."

The suborbital launch of S-520-32 should take place today (https://www.jaxa.jp/press/2022/07/20220725-1_j.html). The window is supposed to strech between 2pm and 3pm UTC according to that press release, with the live stream beginning at 1:30pm.

(Funny enough, the mission is also referred to as "S-520 F45", which is a huge jump from "S-520 F32", i.e. the launch of S-520-RD1. It's like they're making tracking this hard on purpose)

Scrubbed for upper wind issues, the window stretches until 17th August so we should expect another attempt as soon as tomorrow

The rockets are likely flying out of order. Normally the production tail number matches the flight number.
