After watching Challenger launch from Kennedy Space Center, Christa McAuliffe and Barbara Morgan went on to Johnson Space Center. Here they got an introduction into mission control procedures.

During D1 astronaut Ulf Merbold acted as CIC (Crew Interface Coordinator) at Oberpfaffenhofen Mission Control (like CapCom in Houston)

Oh yeah, I remember that one. Crewmember Ockels was at fault there. He neglected to properly seal a container - holding Willi - after he gave the fly something to eat. Eventually, Willi ended up being spotted on one of Challengers cockpit instruments by a suprised commander Hartsfield.

November 6, 1985 - Landing Day

After 112 orbits Challenger touched down at 9:44 am PST on runway 17 of Edwards Air Force Base in California - MET 7 d 0 h 44 m 51 s.

It was the final time we would see Challenger touch down on her own wheels. After her return to KSC she would be prepared for that fateful day in January 1986...
