I had a strong crush on Judy Resnik. I had to sit down when Tom Brokaw started to cry as he talked about just having sent her flowers.

She was a remarkable woman, an astronaut, a concert-quality pianist, and just plain mentally "present". I used to love watching her eyes in interviews, because she was just so obviously all there, and then some.

She was lovely.

It was she who turned on her own PEAP, then crept forward in the falling cabin and turned on those of Mike Smith and Frank Scobee.

Thanks for the tribute. It should be mentioned that all of those folks, not just Ms. Resnik, were pretty stellar.

There is an awesome clip of Judy and Brokaw covering a shuttle flight together on the NBC learn website.. You should check it out! It is from 1981 i believe. Its worth a look!

Judy said that sleeping in space was quite comfortable and compared the sleeping arrangements to that of a 'summer camp' style. She was the only crew member not to endure the lower back pain that is commonly experienced in space, stating that she was 'the first woman to go to bed with 5 guys all of whom had back aches."

According to Mullane, Judy chose not to wear her anti-G suit upon reentry and suffered a bit ..

Well, I shall call it quits for the night. I hope you all enjoyed my little pictorial tribute to Dr. Judith Arlene Resnik. I will resume tomorrow with my photos of the Challenger training... so be sure to bring your box of tissues

STS-41D was one of the 5 launches I saw (others were STS-4, -29, -50, and -135). Thanks for sharing this!

41-D was the first Shuttle mission I worked (payload processing) and the first Shuttle I watched lift off in person (after also watching the abort). 51-L was the last I worked and witnessed. I don't think that I've realized until just now that Judy was a common denominator.
