Do any of the L2 members know Shannon Lucid and can you tell us about her? I've read her impressive bio and space accomplishments, but I've only become aware of her in recent years as the cheerful capcom who starts the space day for the shuttle crews so often. She probably could have retired to a university position years ago, but she stays with the program.

I trained her in a few classes a few years ago and she was a great student and very polite and pleasant to be with. I guess she simply loves space ops over teaching at a university or working with a contractor.

I heard her speak to a group of JSC co-ops/interns a few years back. Very cheerful, incredibly funny, had lots of great stories and was just a ton of fun. When I asked her if she had read "Riding Rockets", and what she thought of the book, she got a twinkle in her eye and said she enjoyed it a lot, and it was all true.
