Sorting Out A List of SLS and Orion Contractors
« on: 01/08/2015 11:40 pm »
NASA provides an interactive map showing all SLS/Orion contractors here.

http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/ESDSuppliersMap/

Is there a way to find a text or spreadsheet listing of all the contractors?

There is a Federal procurement database, but it does not readily provide the data since searching by program does not seem feasible.

An interesting amount of overlap with:

"Marshall Space Flight Center Space Shuttle Propulsion Suppliers"

An interesting amount of overlap with:

"Marshall Space Flight Center Space Shuttle Propulsion Suppliers"

The mandate was to use as much from STS as possible.

Nothing to see here.

Here you are. Pulled from http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/ESDSuppliersMap/index_iphone.html

US suppliers only?
Is there a list available containing also the non-US suppliers?
I miss MT Aerospace from Augsburg, Germany...:-)

Is there an SLS timeline somewhere that lists major events in the program?

There is currently a 70% JCL for EM-1 occurring in late 2018. NASA's internal goal is still to be ready by December, 2017. The most recent GAO study (Dec. 10th, 2014), indicates that the internal goal isn't likely to be met and that pursuing it will cause an undesirable drain on HSF resources.

Beyond EM-1, it is pretty fluid.

L2 has a development schedule somewhere, it might even be public.

Sorry, I should have been clearer: is there a historical timeline that lists major events over the development of the SLS? Things like milestones reached, milestones missed, changes in configuration, etc.?

Thanks. There was a presentation at the Von Braun Symposium in October that I should try to get. It showed a number of milestone slippages (due to funding) and things like that. The gist of it was "it's not our fault, we have not been funded properly"--which is valid--but it had a good record of major program events.
