Hold your applause once this thing reaches orbit (if it reaches orbit).  Spacecraft separation won't happen until more than nine hours pass.  The last Proton M failure occurred several hours into the flight.

That said, good luck Proton, Krunichev, ILS, EADS Astrium, and Eutelsat!

As far as I know the metallic rockets are simply unpainted to save some weight. The painted white Proton-Ks are older rockets, build and painted years ago and then put on storage. But I don't know why this particular Proton-M is white, regarding the fact that Hot Bird 8 is a really big comsat.  :o
